yeah, I have to agree.  I like the characters but I don't think the violence is necessary.   I don't know if its the CSI craze because I don't watch those shows much.    I'll watch and see where the story goes.

NBC's superhero drama Heroes, which came in with low expectations and no high-profile names attached, is shaping up as a hit for the peacock network, Variety reported.

Heroes, whose second episode this week earned a 5.5 rating in adults aged 18-49 and nearly 13 million viewers overall, saw its viewership decline just 7 percent from its strong series premiere, beating its broadcast rivals in most demographics, the trade paper reported.

No other first-year drama this fall has rated higher in the 18-49 demographic with its second episode than did Heroes. Of all NBC dramas to premiere in the past three seasons, only Medium rated higher in week two.

Heroes stars Ali Larter and an ensemble cast who portray ordinary people who discover they have unusual powers. NBC is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.

Saw the second show and I loved it.  I think the gore/violence in this case is absolutely necessary in setting up just how evil and perverse this "Sylar" may be...but the question is:  Just who is Sylar?  Is it the cheerleader's father or does the cheerleaders father work for him?  And the heroes have about 1 month before the bomb goes off in NYC....And I was glad to see the little brother could fly too.

I don't really think this show has alot of violence in it. It shows the end results of the violence but it has never shown the act of violence, which I think is a big difference. In the second episode they showed several people with the top of their heads cut off and brains missing, but we didn't see the action of cutting the head in half, which I think would be going to far. I can't say that seeing the head cut in half was not gorey but like Darth Gaos said I think it was necessary for setting up how horrible this person/thing Sylar really is. This of course is just my opinion.

And I was glad to see the little brother could fly too.

Well he can fly now.. rumors are going around that his power is the power to absorb other's powers (kind of link Rogue from X-Men). Example.... He fell off that building and his brother, who can fly, flew up to him and when they both fell toward the ground,  he flew right before he hit the ground. Then he came in contact with Issac (painter who paints the future) and if you noticed in episode two Peter (younger brother) was drawing on a napkin and at the end after Peter confronts Nathan (older brother) and is actually floating they go back to the napkin and it's the same scene that we just saw. So people are speculating that he can absorb other's powers, now he can fly thanks to Nathan and draw/paint the future thanks to Issac.. not sure if he can keep them or they will disappear in time. Anyways I thought it was a cool theory and I can't wait to find out more about these characters.

Darth Gaos

VERY interesting theory.  I had not considered that but that does make a whole of sense.  I remember seeing the napkin but I did not make that connection.  The policeman has really piqued my interest too

And was it just me that wanted to punch the "other" cheerleader....the girl who is an obvious attention whore who is jealous of....is her name Claire?

Yeah her name is Claire.. but I didn't hate the other cheerleader because I think Claire doesn't want to be in the spotlight so she was fine with it.. of course.. that was until the other girl got all this praise and semi-fame. Claire is still not too happy with her powers.. which I can't understand.. I'd be telling everyone I knew if I had her powers.

Darth Gaos

I understand that Claire didn't mind I just meant that I cannot stand people like that other cheerleader....One who has to be the center of the known universe....

#54
BURBANK - October 5, 2006 - NBC has given a full-season order for 2006-07 to "Heroes" (Mondays, 9-10 p.m. ET) - the critically acclaimed and #1 new series this Fall in adults 18-49 (tied with ABC's "Brothers & Sisters") -- it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President, NBC Entertainment.

"'Heroes' has delivered exceptional ratings since it's premiere and we're even more impressed with the quality of the upcoming episodes," said Reilly. "We have complete confidence in creator-executive producer Tim Kring. The best is yet to come over the course of a full season with this newest drama sensation."

"Heroes" is averaging a 5.7 rating, 14 share in adults 18-49 and 13.5 million viewers overall, making it the #1 new series this Fall in adults 18-49, tied with ABC's "Brothers & Sisters." "Heroes" is the #1 show in its competitive Monday 9-10 p.m. (ET) slot in adults 18-49, generating a 43 percent increase on NBC's non-sports average for the time period last season.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The first breakout new series of the season, NBC's drama "Heroes," has become the first freshman show to receive a full-season order.

NBC has ordered nine additional episodes of the supernatural saga, bringing its complement to 22. In its first two airings, "Heroes" has averaged 13.5 million viewers

This is from a Heroes website that I'm a member of. It explains most of the characters powers ( SPOLIERS)

Thanks to forum member ncmacasl, whose TV Guide (October 9-15th edition) landed in his mailbox with a listing of all the “Heroes” powers as revealed by the man himself, Tim Kring. So who has what power, and what will they do with it? Read on…

Niki Sanders (Ali Larter):

Niki’s power is still unclear - both to her and the audience - but it appears the single mom/stripper has a split personality. Says executive producer Tim Kring, “Her journey is about figuring out how to unify this other side of her and ultimately to control it.”

Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar):

The would-be congressman has the power of flight - and he’s not happy about it. “A guy running for office is really under a microscope,” Kring says. “Nathan doesn’t want [to be seen as] strange and unappealing.”

Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia):

Nathan’s younger brother, a disillusioned nurse, will learn - SPOILER ALERT - that he has the ability to absorb other people’s powers. But beware, Kring says: “He will be tempted whether to use it for good or evil.”

Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy):

Picking up where his murdered dad left off, the genetics professor is trying to prove that superheroes really exist. “He’s on a journey to discover what his father knew and why he died for knowing it,” Kring says.

Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka):

After discovering he can bend the space-time continuum - and teleport himself across the world - the Japanese office worker couldn’t be happier. “It’s no coincidence that we named him Hiro,” Kring says. “He truly is on a hero’s quest.”

Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere):

The Texas cheerleader is indestructible, but “like any teenager, the last thing she wants is to be different from everybody,” Kring says. Tune in October 9 to see just how tough she really is.

Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg):

A lowly L.A. Cop, Matt is slowly learning that he has telepathic powers. “It’s both a blessing and a curse,” says Kring. “He hears what he wants to, but also what other people really think of him.” The FBI will enlist his help in tracking the mysterious serial killer Sylar.

Micah Sanders (Noah Gray-Cabey):

Micah inherited more than good looks from mom Niki and super-powered dad (introduced in Episode 5). Kring says Micah’s special ability is “something very different than either of his parents.”

Isaac Mendez (Santiago Cabrera):

The tortured artist predicts the future when he paints in a heroin-induced haze. “Early in the season, he’s trying to figure out if these powers exist when he isn’t high,” Kring says.

Simone Deveaux (Tawny Cypress):

[Special Power:] None. “You can’t have an entire show where everybody has a power,” says Kring. “She’s a very important character because she’s the voice of the average person saying, ‘this is crazy. This isn’t real!’ ”

Did you guys notice that the symbol on Suresh's map was popping up in a bunch of the scenes (eg paintings, pool, etc.).  I erased the 1st episode off my TiVo, so I can't go back and check to see if it is in every scene.  I'm hoping the more observant of you will be able to let me know if it is.

Warning -- minor spoilers on last nights show...

Was that symbol only in the pilot ?  I'll look through last nights show.  The ending was pretty freaky (can't remember the last time I used that word).

Liking the look of this new show. Only problem is, my sky+ box is going to be more full than ever, oh well, if its an intelligent series then thats cool.

I got this from a Heroes forum in Episode three the symbol showed up

Twice on Papa Suresh's books,
On Clairs Math Book
Twice on the computer
and around the black guys neck

I only caught it on the collar of the black guy at the end.
