Episode 3 was another great episode. The story is moving along nicely. Still alot of mysteries and not many answers but it is only the third episode. Hiro is still my favorite character... his power is so cool. And of course the shocking ending... loved it.

Man I love my job sometimes... the past few weeks they have been building a small town city street between two of the stages. I think it's for Claire's story because there are Odessa cop cars around. Sometimes I have to walk between the stages to get to my office and yesterday when I was walking by I passed Hayden Panettiere who plays Claire, she was in her cheerleaders outfit. She's very pretty and tiny in person. She was fixing her skirt and almost bumped into me, she looked up just in time to miss me.. she gave me a smile and continued to walk pass... and today I just saw Milo Ventimiglia - Peter and Adrian Pasdar - Nathan walking out of there trailer rehearsing lines.. it's very surreal seeing these people that you see every week on your favorite new TV show. I wish I wasn't so professional and could ask for an autograph or picture.. but that wouldn't not go over well here. Oh well I'll continue to admire from afar.

I got this from a Heroes forum in Episode three the symbol showed up

Twice on Papa Suresh's books,
On Clairs Math Book
Twice on the computer
and around the black guys neck
Okay, those are the ones I saw, too.  It's a good thing we have TiVo, because I kept shouting, "Did you see that?!"  My husband missed the first few so we had to rewind to check it out; now he is looking for the symbol, too.

That's great that you get to see the actors and sets.  I wonder how long they are going to keep that poor girl in the cheerleading outfit.  I teach in a high school and our cheerleaders wouldn't be caught dead (pun!) in their uniforms every day!

I'll weigh in on the violence issue, too.  I wouldn't call the show excessively violent, but some of the images are rather disturbing.  The final scene of the last episode really caught me off guard.  Now, if we had seen that happen...that would be crossing a line.  I think it is important, because it--along with the foreseen destruction of NY--gives the situation a sense of urgency.  The characters have to figure out what is happening to them because their lives and the lives of many others depend on it.

I also like that the plot is unfolding in bits and pieces.  Although we do know more than most of the characters, there is enough mystery that we end up feeling a bit of the anxiety and confusion that they feel.  I think that is a great bit of storytelling.  Hiro’s character development is fantastic.  I love that a Star Trek fan is the first one to truly embrace his new powers with excitement and without fear!

This is a new article I just read.. may contain slight spoilers.....

The TV addict recently had the opportunity to discuss NBC’s fall hit HEROES with creator and executive producer TIM KRING. Not having the unique ability to read Tim’s mind, this TV addict actually had to ask questions verbally (damn my lack of superpowers!). So here it goes, a conversation with the mastermind behind HEROES.

Congratulations on officially being picked up for a full season. Now that the show is guaranteed to run for twenty-two episodes, has this changed anything in terms of the HEROES story-line?

Tim Kring: Obviously it is a lot more fun and comfortable to be working in an environment where you’re a hit and have a full season to stretch your wings. But the truth is, that we’re so many episodes ahead of where the audience is, it just feels like the same challenges every single day.

With the pick-up official, how many seasons does the HEROES story go?

Tim Kring: We have a general idea of where the story is going for a few years. HEROES is the kind of thing that can keep spinning and spinning. There is not an island to get off of or a time frame where the world ends.

We have the entire story-line plotted out for season one. In terms of season two, we have a framework, but nothing specific. The pilot introduced a prophecy which will take the entire season to unravel. At the end of season one, there will be a resolution to the pilot’s prophecy. Season two will deal with an entirely new issue.

Speaking of the pilot, there were some significant differences between the pilot that was previewed at the San Diego Comic Con and the episode that premiered on NBC. Can you discuss why there were some changes, specifically with Greg Grunberg’s (Matt Parker) and Santiago Cabrera’s (Issac Mendez) story-lines.

Tim Kring: With Santiago’s story, we wanted to condense the pilot. In the original version, Santiago’s character cut off his hands. But as we were thinking about it, we didn’t want to have a lead character dealing with a medical issue that major. So we changed it to a drug overdose.

In terms of Greg’s character, Matt Parker was originally introduced through a terrorism subplot [Greg was a cop who discovered the terrorists hiding in the basement of a house]. That subplot isn’t coming back, as we wanted to shy away from the whole issue of terrorism.

How did you feel about the pilot being leaked on the internet several months ago?

Tim Kring: These days, things sort of crop up on the net no matter how hard you try to keep check on them. The truth is, in the end, it helped us create tremendous buzz for the show before it aired. Ultimately, it helped us get viewers.

One of the things that has really struck a cord with the audience, especially women, is the strong female character that Ali Larter (Nikki) is playing? There is a lot of debate as to what her powers are. Can you comment on that?

Tim Kring: It’s safe to assume that her powers are somewhat similar to that of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, or the Hulk. We’re leaving the door very open though.

How did you choose the particular powers portrayed on the show?

Tim Kring: I tried to keep the powers related to what the character’s personality or particular need was. In Ali’s case, the character of Nikki was stretched as thin as she could. Wouldn’t it be interesting to have her character be able to be in two places at once?

Could Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) have more then one power?

Tim Kring: Peter may have multiple powers. By proximity to his brother (Nathan), he was able to fly. When he was near Issac, he had the ability to draw the future. It’s fair to say Peter could have more then one power.

The powers are intended to be confusing, as we’re following it through the characters point of view. Nikki’s character is the one character who’s discovering this in the most confusing way. So we’re asking the audience to sort of buy in the conceit that it’s going to be a road of discovery throughout the next couple of episodes. By episode five or six, things should be more clear.

Powers are just powers, it’s what you do with them that defines your circumstances. Depending on the character’s personality, the powers may be used for good or evil. Some of our Heroes will be tempted by the dark side.

Speaking of the dark side, is Sylar a villain HEROES will be following all season long?

Tim Kring: On a show called HEROES, you need a villain, and it’s safe to assume that Sylar has been presented as the season’s major villain. The bodies with heads cut off are not coincidences. There is a method to Sylar’s ‘madness’, and he does present a genuine threat to our Heroes.

Are Sylar and Claire’s father connected?

Tim Kring: There is a connection between the two, which will become clear in later episodes.

In this week’s episode, Claire Bennet presumably died until the wood was removed from her head. Was she indeed dead?

Tim King: It’s safe to assume that whatever power Claire has, eminates from the brain (turned on and off by a switch). There is a clue there as to why the major villain of the show is interested in brains.

Claire’s cliffhanger was jaw-dropping. Will every episode end with a cliffhanger?

Tim Kring: Cliffhangers will pretty much be standard at the end of each episode. With so many story-lines, it allows you to find a moment at the end of each episode that leaves viewers hanging. Some will obviously be more jaw-dropping then others, but we’re committed to keeping the idea alive.

In terms of the show’s structure, will we continue seeing seven or eight separate stories per episode?

Tim Kring: The pilot, and the first few episodes were structured to introduce all of our character’s stories. As we continue to learn more about these characters and invest in them more, we start to narrow our focus. Certain characters will being to cross paths, so we no longer have to tell eight stories, we can tell two or three.

Geekyfanboy

Tim Kring, creator and executive producer of NBC's hit series Heroes, told SCI FI Wire that audiences can expect the show's superpowered characters to start joining forces and working as a team in upcoming episodes. "As their destiny starts to sort of become intermingled with one another, yes, they have to form this sort of alliance with one another," Kring said in a conference call with journalists on Oct. 11. "And then, in a sense, join with each other in order to figure out what's going on. Every character has sort of a tiny piece of the puzzle. So the puzzle gets put together by the characters coming together."

Rather than continuing to focus on the individual storylines of the large cast of characters, Kring said that Heroes will gradually integrate the threads into a single overarching story. "If you sort of look at it as kind of a funnel, it starts wide and starts to narrow," he said. "As these characters start to cross paths, you no longer have to tell eight stories. You can tell four stories or three stories. So there is a natural progression that's allowing us to tell less and less scattered stories."

Kring confirmed that the heroes will find a common enemy in the mysterious serial killer known as Sylar, who Kring called the "major villain" of the first season. Though the identity of Sylar hasn't been revealed, he may be someone that viewers have already met. "We're going to leave some of the answers to that vague, because I really want the audience to be surprised when we do introduce the character." Kring said. "I know there is speculation that the character is somebody that is among the characters already, and I'm comfortable with that speculation. And I kind of don't want to give it away." Heroes airs Mondays at 9 p.m. PT/ET. NBC is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM. â€"Cindy White

Another awesome episode.. the story is unfolding nicely and is getting more complicated as it goes. I loved Niki in the elevator, and Claire's story was really good. And the final scene with Hiro and Peter... WOW.... "Save the Cheerleader... Save the World"

What did everyone else think?

Chrystabel

The "Save the Cheerleader... Save the World" line was a bit cheesy, but it did lead to a good discussion with my husband.  I think Claire is going to hold the answers because she will be the only one able to stop her "father."  The symbol on "Niki's" back freaked me out a little bit; I want to see if it is still there when she reverts back to herself.  Did you notice that they changed the photo of the actor playing the dead prof. on the back of the book?  I LOVE the Hiro of the future!!!  I can't wait to see how he becomes that person!

I'm bummed that they didn't go back to Matt  :police -- I was hoping he would fight back.   Maybe next week.

This show is so awesome...I could go on and on.

I actually liked that line.. gave me chills.  :biggrin

And yes I did notice that they changed the picture on the back of the book. Not only did they change the picture but the actor as well. Wonder what was up with that.

Did you notice the symbol anywhere else other than 'bad' Niki's back? I didn't but I plan on watching it again tomorrow to catch more things. Oh and did you notice the mysterious black guy kiss his symbol necklace like it was a cross or something... very interesting.

Rico

Wow - you guys noticed things I missed.  Since Hiro can travel in time, it's logical to assume he could end up meeting the dead prof. sometime.  Some of what is going on is a bit cliche but I'm still really liking it.  It's one of the closest live action "comic book" shows that I have ever seen on TV.  I love Hiro and his friend in the casino talking about Peter Parker to justify gambling using Hiro's power.  And seeing Hiro from the future - very cool!  Looking forward to seeing how this all unfolds.

Geekyfanboy

Check out the handle of future Hiro's sword... see the symbol. I love when a show takes the time to put these details into it.

Here is a picture of the two different book covers with the two different pictures.. there is a bunch of buzz going round the net about this but nothing concrete.. I think it's simple they replaced the actor and the footage on the "previously on" was cut prior to the change and they missed it and it had the old actor on the book and not the new actor. I think it was just a mistake.

Heroes makes the cover of next weeks TV Guide.. not bad for a show that's only aired four times.

The actor on the cover in "One Giant Leap" is Erick Avari.  Avari has shown up on a number of sci-fi shows, including Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Enterprise, and Stargate SG-1 (reprising his role from the movie).

I haven't a clue regarding the identity of the other actor.  Sorry.

Geekyfanboy

Well Erick Avari is the one I see walking about the lot here.. so I assume he is Dr. Surresh. If you go to IMDB he is credited with four upcoming episodes.

The show is, so far, a pleasant suprise. With the sucess of LOST, serial mystery pseudoscifi shows have beeen popping up a lot. Last year it was Threashold, Surface and Invasion.  This year its Heroes, Jericho and The 9.

After the very dissapointing performance both quality and ratings wise of last years trio of lost clones I was not willing to let myself get my hopes up this year, but I have never been so happy to be wrong in years.

Jericho is fine, if a little slow, but Heroes is just amazing, I have been thrilled with every episode so far. I know a lot of people are complaining that the pace of the show is too slow, but this is a full season story arc so we have time to really get to know our characters and there are a lot of characters to get to know so I think the slower pace will be a good thing in the long term.

I was a bit annoyed with the cheerleader characters whinny attitude about her powers at first, but the more we get to know her ( and the more I contrast that with my own 15 year old stepdaughters issues ) I can see how important staying in her crowd and keeping her accustomed place would be to a girl who has worked so hard to reach a status of plopularity and membership in the "in crowd".  No matter what the fringe benifits are, she would do anything to avoid becoming a "freak" and thus loosing her position in her chosen crowd.

Still her characters struggle makes Hiro's enthusiasic acceptance of his powers and destiny all that more refreshing and entertaining.  Hiro is so much the unashamed ubergeek that seeing this through his eyes is just a joy.

And Hiro from the future is just too damn cool for words!

I could go on for hours, but im at work ;-) so i better cool it for now
