Theory ...
To put it in Trek terms.  I think the six legged aliens = Jem'Hadar.  The question is who's playing the roll of the Dominion?
That is an AWESOME comparison!

Rico

They have been hinting already that all is not as it appears as far as the aliens go on this show and also what they have been doing on Earth so far - especially to the kids.  Looking forward to seeing more episodes.

Falling Skies= BSG + Independence Day + V. Not so happy where this is going.

I'm trying to watch it, but it's not grabbing my attention. I think I've trying four times now to watch the first episode, but something else pulls me away and I just don't feel bad for not seeing it all.

Is it just me or was the premier a bit slow to start?

I thought the premiere was pretty good, but the new episode is so been there done that. So derivative...
He drags the Alien to his commander?! That was good once with Wil Smith, not so much with Noah Wiley.
This isn't what you'd call a very action packed, fast paced show at all
It's more of a drama with a splash of sci-fi in it, but honestly, I kind of like it. I'd like to see the story unfold a little faster though, and Bryan, I agree. The dragging of the alien was kind of gratuitous in that it's been done before...more effectively. What I don't like so much is that they put this skidder in a janators closet, with a fairly thin grate welded to the door frame. "We need to study it". Uh..guys, you can't study a DEAD earth killing alien?? I'm more intrigued I guess by what the story can evolve into, and am hoping they do it right. I like Pope, he's interesting, although his character evolved a bit too fast considering. I'll continue watching since Game Of Thrones is gone for now...:)
I enjoyed last nights episode. Sure some of its, been there done that, but what about all the cop shows and court shows, been there done that, but they can still be good shows.
Really didn't care for the kids getting shot. The wife goes"did they shoot those kids!!" "Ahh yes, honey. Can we still watch?" Also am wondering what happened to that girl the aliens captured??  And please help me here what connection did Tom's wife and that Doctor have?
I thought the last episode was good.  I'm enjoying the human aspects of this series and like the balance of fighting the enemy and dealing with issues like supplies, weapons, shelter, etc.  It's keeping my interest so far and I want to see where it goes.  Keep in mind, various reports have said that things are not as they exactly appear in this series and surprises are coming in the near future.  Stay tuned in for more.

I am really enjoying this....but that may largely  be down to the fact that Doctor Carter from ER is in it!!

I would describe it more as a cross between Walking Dead, V and the future shown to us in Terminator.

I'm going to make a guess here.....the Skitters aren't the big bad. They made a big point of asking why the 2 legged robots didn't have 6 legs (or is it 8.....i forget!)

I'm going to guess that they are either, a non-intelligent creature trained by a, as of yet, unseen menace. Or they are slaves to some kind of superior race.

Blackride

Someone asked me what this show was about and I told them "Aliens attacking Earth". It sounded like the same old story, and you know what? It is......And you know what? I don't care :) I am still enjoying it. They are really focusing on the people in this series and I think its a wise move. They are trying to follow the BSG format.
Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

Enjoyed the last episode and good news - it's been renewed for a second season already!

TNT has announced that they have renewed their new series, "Falling Skies," for a second season of ten episodes, set to air in the summer of 2012.

From DreamWorks Television and Executive Producer Steven Spielberg, "Falling Skies" features Noah Wyle in the epic saga about the aftermath of an all-out invasion by an alien military force. Full details of the renewal from the network's official announcement are as follows.

"Falling Skies is a true standout series, from its ambitious storytelling, high-profile cast and production team to its phenomenal success when it comes to international and time-shifted viewing," said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). "We're reaching new audiences with Falling Skies and look forward to seeing where this fascinating and exciting series takes us next."

Falling Skies takes place in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. Tom Mason (Wyle), a Boston history professor and the father of three sons, must put his extensive knowledge of military history to the test as second in command of a regiment of resistance fighters protecting a large group of civilian survivors. Falling Skies also stars Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton and Drew Roy.

Falling Skies premiered in the U.S. on TNT Sunday, June 19, drawing an extraordinary Live + 7 audience of 8 million viewers and ranking it as cable's top series launch of 2011. The premiere also garnered an impressive 3.8 million adults 18-49 and 4.5 million adults 25-54. Through its first three installments, Falling Skies has averaged more than 6.4 million viewers through a blend of live and time-shifted viewing.

Falling Skies is quickly becoming a global television sensation. In the opening stages of its rollout in more than 75 international markets, it has already drawn strong – and in some cases record – audience deliveries for networks airing it in the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.

In addition to Spielberg, the first season of Falling Skies has been executive-produced by DreamWorks Television heads Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank, Graham Yost and screenwriter Robert Rodat, who wrote the pilot from an idea he co-conceived with Spielberg. Mark Verheiden and Greg Beeman have served as co-executive producers.

I thought the last episode was better.

spaltor

I'm trying to watch this, and it's just not grabbing me.  I feel like it's a bit slow, and even a bit disjointed.  A lot of the characters and storylines just seem cliche to me.  Hopefully it'll pick up - I'd love be invested in some summer scifi that's not on Syfy.

ori-STUDFARM

I feel as though me and Spaltor are watching completely different shows :)

For me, this has grabbed me instantly in a way that other shows of late have struggled to. I'm finding it moving along at a nice pace with each episode seeming to reveal something new and relevant to the story. Cliched storylines I'll agree with...but I'm with Blackride on this. I'm enjoying it anyway.

Isn't it weird how people have different reactions to the same stuff? I think my instant liking of this show probably has a lot to do with Noah Wyle in the main role.

Bryancd

I actually agree more with Spaltor as well. It's OK, but aspects really are very been there done that and some of the character portrayals are flat and derivative.
