Can't really answer that.  I play a frost mage.

The question of balancing is a simple one. If one class is substantially better then another, those players will have an advantage over others. Healers and tanks don't race for DPS, healers race for bigger healing numbers and tanks for health and damage mitigation. At the top end WoW is a numbers game.

I preordered the expansion via Best Buy yesterday.  Sprung for the collector's edition.  Tried to preorder it at a local Gamestop but they wouldn't take any more preorders for the collector's edition.  Anyway, got my copy secured.

If you order too late for them to make sure you have a copy, they won't preorder it for you. That's any company.

"Managing Customer Expectations" They've obviously got a preorder allocation and have probably used it up.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Yes, and obviously Best Buy was allotted more copies.  I would have probably still been able to walk in and buy a copy, but I wanted to make sure I snagged the collector's edition with the extra goodies.

Hmm, ok, I guess it is getting close to Cataclysm.  Derp, never thought of that.  Time flies...and all that stuff.

I just pre-ordered the digital download. CE's aren't a big deal for me :)

Rico

Of course since I'm a collector I like the extra goodies!  I also still like to have physical discs for certain games when I can get them.  Call me old fashioned but I figure for the price you should get some discs and packaging.

Joe - is the digital version any cheaper than even the basic version of the expansion?  I think that's priced at $39.95.

Yeah it was 39.95. Honestly I was going to wait and order a physical box and then I sat and thought about it. When it comes to WoW the in box disc becomes very obsolete very quickly. I don't get the Collector's editions so aside from a DVD and a few advertising leaflets there isn't much is the standard edition  box. My other three WoW boxes sit on my shelf and take up space.

Since it's an online game I'm not really worried about the company going away and then I wouldn't have a copy of the game. If the company goes away, the game would as well.

Rico

True Joe.  But I have found the discs handy for new installs of the game - even to this date.  It tends to make Windows happy, and the patches are less to download than the whole game.  But I can see your point.  It just kind of bugs me they charge the same for a digital version as the boxed one.  That just seems wrong.  I mean would it kill them to drop even $5 bucks off the digital price?

billybob476

Oh I agree. There are definitely less overhead costs associated with the digital download (file storage, downloader infrastructure and bandwidth) as opposed to all the packaging, DVD stamping, shipping & distribution etc.

Frankly I think they make it the same price to appease physical retailers. If the digital version was 20 dollars, a lot less people would be buying boxed copies.

You have to think about the benefit of digital. If you buy it digital, you can always download it and you don't have to worry about scratched discs, waiting in line for the game, or losing said disc.
