I'm going to merge this with the Star Trek Tour Thread.

I wonder if something is up with this.. they are doing 40 cities in five years.. but it's been in Long Beach for five months and there is still no list of cities they plan to visit. I mean if they do two or three cities a year that's only at most 15 cities... Kind of strange don't you think?

Jen

When are they going to come to TEXAS?! I still haven't seen an actual time. I see that it's coming to Dallas and Houston (why not Austin or SA?)... but not time. I hope I don't miss it when it comes! I would be devastated!

Finally some new about Star Trek The Tour...

http://thedistrictweekly.com/daily/writing-shotgun/star-trek-the-tour-finally-gets-released-from-space-jail/

"STAR TREK THE TOUR" FINALLY GETS RELEASED FROM SPACE JAIL
Theo DouglasWed. May 21

Remember "Star Trek the Tour," that fantastical Queen Mary exhibit of all things Trekkie–uniforms and phasers and a real live fake Starship Enterprise? The rumor mill had it opening in San Diego last Thursday–but it's still here, locked up in space jail, which is what Vulcans call the old Spruce Goose dome.

Confused? This is a complicated story–mainly because almost no one connected with this space oddity of a traveling sideshow wants to say much about it. It's as if the captains of this tour were sucked into a black hole, which is either not far from the truth or light years away from it.

"Star Trek the Tour" set its coordinates for Long Beach in January, the month after crews finished filming that new Star Trek movie in Lincoln Park. Coincidence, my young Paduan apprentice? Wrong sci-fi franchise. Idiot! The show was originally scheduled to close in mid-February, but for some reason it was held it over another two weeks.

Then, it closed in March–and stayed another two months. Lawyers for Save the Queen (STQ), which runs the Queen Mary and its surroundings, figured the folks at SEE Touring Productions in Los Angeles–which owned the Tour–owed them an extra $200,000 for security and food and lodging aboard the Queen Mary. So they just kept the "Tour." Set your phasers to "stun."

"There is still a lot of equipment over there, because [if] we let them take the equipment then we don't have anything to hold over them," a source close to the exhibit confirmed for me earlier this week. "It is not a pleasant situation as I understand it." (The source declined to be identified, for fear of jeopardizing their livelihood.)

That's why the exhibit has been hanging around. Also, according to Paul Konapelsky, general counsel for Save the Queen, SEE Touring decided to beam itself up while all this was going on, and it no longer owns Star Trek the Tour.

Representatives of SEE Touring did not respond to repeated telephone messages requesting comment. But somehow–and this is where people really stopped taking my calls–ownership of the Tour has passed to an outfit in Greenwich, Connecticut called Plainfield Asset Management.

Plainfield Asset Management–the name just screams "science fiction," doesn't it? "The firm manages investment capital for institutions and high net worth individuals based in the United States and abroad," according to its website, and that's all I want to say about that.

I reached Plainfield's Michael Lehman late in the afternoon Friday, most likely because he thought I was someone else, and he agreed to talk on Monday. That's when the radio went dead. Neither Lehman nor another Plainfield man named Joe Benzivenga would say another word, probably because they were talking settlement.

"Let me see if I can reach him and get him a message," Lehman's secretary said at one point. "What was your name again–Koto?" Almost. Then, yesterday, it happened–and by it, I mean nothing. Konapelsky called the next day.

"Plainfield put up the money for the promoter and they got into a dispute, the exact extent of which I'm not familiar with–nor do I care to be," Konapelsky said with a chuckle.

"They have been going back and forth for probably the past two months. They actually, finally reached an agreement this past Sunday which in turn resulted in Plainfield acquiring everything, rather than just having a security interest in [the exhibit]. It's my understanding that they have a new promoter who is going to pick up and run the show." And also?

"We reached an agreement with Plainfield," Konapelsky added. "They paid us yesterday, and they are going to have the dome loaded out by June 6." June 6–isn't that the first day of the Ink-N-Iron tattoo festival? Konapelsky said Plainfield probably won't wait that long. Most of the Star Trek memorabilia will probably be picked up just as soon as it can get a ride.

And that's it. "Qapla," as the Klingons say–"success!" To some.

Dang!  What a mess.  I wonder if it will ever reach Detroit or any other city now?

jedijeff

Yes, that is a mess, I wonder what will happen to the tour, as this news is certainly not good. I feel bad for Star Trek fans, and just Trek in general. At times it seems like CBS/Paramount do not do enough due diligence on some of these things, and in the end, things like this just make Trek look bad. I get the feeling that who ever owns Trek is just looking for money, and do not bother actually making sure the people wanting to do things like this tour, can actually pull it off. People might think Lucas and his group are a bit overbearing on the Star Wars license, but at least they always make sure that things like this would not happen. They had there issues with C4, but at least that came off successfully on the whole. I really hope this tour can get back up and running, as it would be a pity if it was mothballed, or the parts just sold off. It would be nice if the Roddenberrys owned Trek like Lucas does with Star Wars, then more care would be given to it.

I knew that I should have seen it in Long Beach when I was in LA in January.

Yeah that's my worry.. if The Tour can't do well in Los Angeles and make money how do they expect it to do well in other less populated cities..

I think if this new company continues the tour they will make changes to the tour and how many cities they plan to visit.

Premier Exhibitions presenting Star Trek The Exhibition

Premier Exhibitions Inc. is launching a Sci-Fi exhibition it hopes will be long and prosperous.

The Atlanta-based company will present "Star Trek The Exhibition," beginning June 21 at the San Diego Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park. Future cities and dates are expected to be announced later.

The Sci-Fi exhibition will feature the world's most comprehensive collection of authentic Star Trek ships, sets, costumes and props from five TV series and 10 films over the last 40-plus years. Visitors will be able to ride through a Star Trek adventure in full motion Star Trek-based flight simulators, sit on a full size U.S.S. Enterprise bridge from the original television series and view detailed re-creations of original sets.

"The universal appeal of these beloved television series and blockbuster films allows us the opportunity to bring an exclusive experience that will not only capture the imagination of visitors but allow each to turn fantasy into reality," said Bruce Eskowitz, CEO of Premier Exhibitions. "We're taking families on a voyage through the history of the future."

'Star Trek The Tour' Is Now 'Star Trek The Exhibition'

After being delayed due to financial issues and a change in ownership, Star Trek The Exhibition is on the move to San Diego, California.

As reported by aerospacemuseum.org, Star Trek The Exhibition is due to open in San Diego on the 21st of June at the San Diego Air & Space Museum located in Balboa Park.

Highlights from the exhibition features recreations of original sets from Star Trek: The Next Generation, two full-motion flight simulators to take fans "through the galaxy", interactive episodes where fans can "star" with the original cast and have a DVD made of the experience, and a full-sized bridge from the original series Enterprise, where fans can have their photos taken and superimposed with an image of the original cast including Spock, Dr. McCoy and Scotty.

According to an article at TrekMovie.com, Star Trek The Exhibition is "more compact". Because of this, it will be traveling to more cities, as it is expected that two shows can be run simultaneously.

Star Trek The Exhibition will be staying in each city for a longer time. It is expected that Star Trek The Exhibition will remain in San Diego throughout the rest of the year.

Ticket prices for the event will also be lower than they had been when it appeared in Long Beach, with discounts available for students, military members, senior citizens and museum members.

The more I read the more I'm glad we got to go in Long Beach.. the new version sounds smaller. Doesn't sound like there is a TNG Bridge set, sounds like there are less props and doesn't seem like they have the Titian experience. Still won't stop me from driving down there one day and attending. :)
