I think the problem with my laptop is the integrated video card.  It's just not meant for gaming.  The main reason I quit playing WoW, beyond my guild falling apart, is the performance problems and the fact that I can't upgrade the stupid video card because it is soldered into my laptop or something.

Thanks so much Rico, I am going to try to save a few dollars and I will take you up on that offer for sure!

Gaming on a laptop is never ideal. Even those swanky ultra expensive 'gaming' laptops go obsolete very quickly.

Is that so?  Too bad they can't nail that tech down affordably yet, I love the portability of my laptop.  I carry it all over the house.

Back to Cataclysm though: Worgen!!!  I might actually have to play Alliance????  Yuck. The Goblins look like the Horde's answer to the Gnomes, nothing I'm really excited about there, although they supposedly have a cool sounding racial mount, a roadster of some kind.  Did they mention during Blizzcon if the leveling process would be altered all through the game or similar to the Blood Elves and Dranei all the new quests would be lvls 1 - 20?  Tons of awesome lore possibilities if you are into that.  Looking forward to seeing Deathwing in the game again and I hope he is implemented the way they have done with Arthas in Wrath, having him show up at various times in quests and cut scenes throughout the level grind.  so much to be excited about.

Well, the official release date is out!  DECEMBER 7, 2010!

WOOT!!!

WORLD OF WARCRAFT®: CATACLYSM™ IN STORES STARTING DECEMBER 7

IRVINE, Calif. -- October 4, 2010 Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that World of Warcraft®: Cataclysm™, the highly anticipated third expansion for the world's most popular subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game*, will be released starting on December 7, 2010. The expansion will be available on DVD-ROM for Windows® XP/Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 and Macintosh® at a suggested retail price of $39.99 and will also be offered as a digital download from the Blizzard Store. A special Collector's Edition packed with bonus items will be available exclusively in retail stores for a suggested retail price of $79.99.

"Cataclysm includes the best content we've ever created for World of Warcraft. It's not just an expansion, but a re-creation of much of the original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "With the help of our beta testers, we're putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months."

The first two World of Warcraft expansions, The Burning Crusade® and Wrath of the Lich King®, each shattered PC game sales records upon their release.* In Cataclysm, the face of Azeroth will be forever altered by the return of the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing. Players will explore once-familiar areas of the world that have now been reshaped by the devastation and filled with new adventures. In an effort to survive the planet-shattering cataclysm, two new playable races -- worgen and goblins -- will join the struggle between the Alliance and the Horde. As players journey to the new level cap of 85, they'll discover newly revealed locations, acquire new levels of power, and come face to face with Deathwing in a battle to determine the fate of the world.

The beta test for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is currently underway. Blah blah blah, boring unoriginal content blah blah blah, same old grind, stealing your $$, blah blah blah.  ;)

This expansion just doesn't excite me at all.  Probably doesn't help I don't play Wow anymore though.

Tim, I can understand if the game doesn't appeal to you anymore, but they are pretty much revamping the entire world/game.  I certainly wouldn't call that boring or unoriginal.

For me, I'm super excited!

WoW bored me. I know I am in the minority. I did not like all the kids in the game also. I prefered DAOC,Warhammer and EQII for fantasy MMO.
Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

I would be more excited, because I did enjoy the lore parts of WoW, but I know that they broke their own lore and history to make the game appeal to more people.  This latest expansion doesn't fix any of that either, just makes it worse.  Also, the even more recent class/race changes just made wonder why all races can't do all classes, they pretty much already do.  Tauren Paladins....need I say more?

Really not following your points as I see pretty much the opposite.  But I guess the game isn't for you anymore.

How did they break the lore? I know some fans like to write up stuff and call it official, but that doesn't make it so. In the end, why would any company ever limit the ways to entice someone to a game if it doesn't break the balance of the game?

As a role player I've noticed Blizzard willing to bend or break their own history in order to make the game appeal to everyone.  The bosses being killable as raid deals is one thing, but the Tauren Paladins, the other numerous class/race combos that have been made slap the race's history in the face.  Taurens were never of the light, they were of the "Earthmother".  The Blood Elves joining the horde stretched what that race should have done.

The worgen joining the alliance would never happen originally.  I don't know all the details about the Worgen in Cataclysm, but when humans turned into Worgen, they were nothing more than vicious animals, not fancy druids as they seem to be now.  That and the Goblins who are neutral in the affairs of the horde and alliance joining the horde again, stretching the history.

I guess to you guys it's nitpicks, but these are just a few examples that come to mind.  But I really dislike WoW for reasons beyond the lore, the never ending grind, the large amount of micro-transactions, the abandonment of Roleplayers, the loss of World PVP and the complete lack of PVP balance turned my interest off.  Say what you will, but PVP is never balanced when the Good players never lose and those catching up can never win because the good armor is locked behind "being good" so any chance of being able to win goes out the window.  We can't all play WoW 24/7...

I can understand some of what you are saying.  Guess since you don't like WOW you will be saving yourself the cost of the expansion and the monthly fee (more money to pay that monthly iPhone bill).  For me, I think it will really breathe new life into the game.  As far as lore, I guess it's their game and they can change anything they want.  Certainly comics, movies, TV, etc. do that all the time.  "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" have done it many times.

Jobydrone

I've never played the race/class combo Tauren Paladin, so I have no idea how Blizz implemented it, but I know from D&D rules Paladin's can worship any diety, but were required to have Lawful Good alignment.  I think that Deathknight class was created as an evil equivalent to the Pally although in WoW they aren't really that close.  I see them as a holy warrior type of thing and could certainly be believeable worshiping a nature goddess in my mind. Especially in a game where you are playing as a walking/talking cow.  WoW lore was never my primary reason for playing anyway.  It's super cool thatthey have such a fleshed out history and story but I don't care at all if they decide to revise it for whatever reason they choose.

lol Rico, you always going to bring up
My iPhone even if I don't mention it?  ;).

I guess I hear what your saying about the lore deal.  And it's not just the lore keeping me from WOW, just one of a few.  I have had a bad itch to play a fantasy game here lately though.  WoW sadly seems one of my better choices as a PC/iPhone gamer.
