It's nice to see some positive thinking for once. lol

Seriously, though, while I share your concerns, I prefer to wait until the movie is actually made and I get to see it before passing judgment. I'm not a huge fan of pointless sequels, but I respect Ford enough to know he's going to at least try to make this, his Indy Swan Song, the best one, or at least a good way to pass the torch.

Hopefully it won't be like when Kirk meets HIS son!

Don't get me wrong as I love the Indy series and saw each of them on release day but I'm not holding my breath. I think it will wind up being a "been there, done that" type of thing. Whenever there is a lack for originality TPTB always seem to go back to the well to what has worked for them in the past instead of reaching deep inside and doing something completely different. So, although I will go see the film I am looking forward to it with about the same anticipation as the upcoming Jurassic Park IV. All I can say is I hope they prove me wrong!

Hey Kevin.. how can you began to enjoy a movie if you go into it thinking it's going to be horrible or "been there, done that".  Don't you think having  pre-determined ideas about a film can only hurt your viewing of these films.

I never said it was the right way to approach a film and certainly not my normal mode of film viewing. I hope that Spielberg can indeed surprise me and just because I doubt that there is anything really valid to tell in the Indy story does not mean that I cannot be objective about it while I watch it.

I really had high hopes for Superman Returns and imho it was a big let down. Same with Batman Begins. Oh they had some cool special effects but the story and acting in both films was awful at times. It's sad when the animated shows can tell better stories than features imho! Now I suppose that both those films will have their fans who would object to my opinion and that's cool.

Now on the otherside I was very skeptical that the latest James Bond (Casino Royale) would be any good at all and boy was I proved wrong! Did my skepticism keep me from enjoying the film? Not at all! In fact I came out more satisfied because the movie was far better than I had hoped, and being the huge James Bond fan that I am,  I have to say it is in my top 5 of all Bond films ever made and maybe even in my top three.

So the answer is that I will attend the film with the best open mind I can and I hope it surpasses my expectations!

Superman Returns was not a big letdown to me, but I can see where it could be. I found it engaging and fun, but by no means was it a perfect flick. Batman Begins, OTOH was great, but the car chase scene where he drives over an old dilapidated church in his 5000 pound war wagon, er, Batmobile, and didn't crash through was just awful. I also liked that they didn't kill off the villains, at least not that I recall.

I Loved Casino Royale. Loved. It made me forget there was ever more than one Peirce Brosnan Bond flick.

Spidey 3, disappointment to me, but many people loved it.

So, yes, I see your point completely. Sequels, especially in the hands of Speilburg and Lucas, are never a suer thing, and more often than not, disappoint. Especially with the track record of these guys lately.

Maybe Clint Eastwood should direct Indy 4? Wonder how different THAT flick would be??

Eastwood would certainly make an "interesting" choice!  :unsure I'm not sure he could really get the comedic elements that an Indy film requires. So much of his stuff is so serious these days but I do think he has turned into a fine fine director.

I'm happy there is going to be another Indy film.  I really think it's going to surprise people.  All three of these guys (Lucas, Spielberg and Ford) know how to make a good movie.  I have high hopes for it.  Can't wait to start seeing a few on set photos of Ford back in his Indy gear!

Connery Not Doing Indy 4

Laying to rest months of rumors, Sean Connery said that he will not reprise the role of Henry Jones in the upcoming fourth Indiana Jones movie in a statement posted on the official Indiana Jones Web site. The 76-year-old actor said: "I get asked the question so often, I thought it best to make an announcement. I thought long and hard about it, and if anything could have pulled me out of retirement, it would have been an Indiana Jones film. I love working with [director] Steven [Spielberg] and [producer] George [Lucas], and it goes without saying that it is an honor to have Harrison [Ford] as my son. But in the end, retirement is just too damned much fun."

Connery, who played Indy's dad in 1998's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, retired from acting in 2005. He had this advice for Ford, who turns 65 in July and whom he referred to as "junior": "Demand that the critters be digital, the cliffs be low and for goodness sake keep that whip by your side at all times in case you need to escape from the stunt coordinator! This is a remarkable cast, and I can only say, 'Break a leg, everyone.' I'll see you on May 22, 2008, at the theater!"

Indiana Jones 4 will co-star Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone and John Hurt. It's in preproduction.

Rico

It would of been nice to see him, but I'm guessing he wasn't essential to the plot since the script is written and they hadn't signed him up.  Probably would of been more like a cameo part.

Geekyfanboy

yeah.. George said he was in the script but would be easy to pull out if he didn't want to do it.

Locutus

They don't need him. The last one passed the torch from him to Indy, so in this one Indy is passing the torch to Shia. It would've been nice to see him, but it is definitely not necessary.

(Yes, I know he wasn't in the other ones. It was a generational thing. Bah, you know what I'm talking about. ;) )

It does not really bother me either that he is not in Indy 4, Like everyone has said, chances are his role would have been small anyways and not important to the over all plot.

Ktrek

I would have loved to have seen Connery in Indy 4 as it would have been a very nice continuity touch but I can respect Connery's decision.

Check it out.. someone got a picture of Mr. Ford on the set of the new Indy film... he looks pretty good!!!

Locutus

He looks "Seasoned".

And, if my eyes doth not deceive me, that looks like blood on his pants and a bruise on the cheek. Looks like he'll be in the thick of the action, with probably a "I'm now too old for this" joke or two.
