I didn't think they would give Indy a kid - but there you go.  Hopefully they can pull this off.  Still, any new Indy movie with Harrison back in the hat works for me.

Blanchett and Ford Together?

Cate Blanchett is said to be in serious negotiations to star opposite Harrison Ford for the new LucasFilm, Steven Spielberg movie tentatively dubbed “Indiana Jones: 4.”

While her role in the film has not been made public, rumor control has it that the Oscar winner may be the mysterious wife of the adventureous archeologist.

What we can tell you is the script is complete, Spielberg is directing, Shia LaBeouf is denying involvement, Paramount is distributing the project and shooting begins June 2007. The other news is a release date of May 22, 2008 has been set.

Blanchett is pretty much confirmed now from what I'm reading.  I do enjoy Cate Blanchett but if she is truly the female lead, I think it's a dumb idea. Why do they feel the need to give Ford an actress to play against that is about half his age?  Even if they didn't go with one of the previous Indy girls, they could of picked someone a bit closer to his age. Have to see how this plays out.

I would of liked to see Karen Allen come back as Marion myself.

LaBeouf Confirmed For Indy 4

Confirming rumors, Paramount Pictures officially announced that Shia LaBeouf has been cast in the upcoming fourth Indiana Jones movie. LaBeouf himself had downplayed previous reports that he was up for the role, calling them "rumors."

LaBeouf joins Harrison Ford, who returns as the title action hero, and Cate Blanchett, who was previously cast.

Production on Indiana Jones 4 is scheduled to begin in June in Los Angeles and will also film at undisclosed distant locations. Steven Spielberg will direct from a screenplay by David Koepp. Frank Marshall will produce the film, with George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy serving as executive producers.

LaBeouf is soon to be seen in the DreamWorks Pictures productions Disturbia and Transformers.

"We are excited about bringing Shia into our Indy family," Spielberg said in a statement. "His talent has impressed not only his audiences throughout his young career, but the directors, producers and fellow actors who have worked with him in his television career and now his film career."

Commenting on his earlier denials, LaBeouf said in his own statement: "I was hoping the rumors were true, so I couldn't be more thrilled. To be cast in an Indiana Jones film is like grabbing the brass ring and holding on for the ride. I'll do my best to meet the high standards that Steven, George and Harrison have set, and I can't wait to take that giant step in front of the Indy cameras."

Rico

I like Shia so I'm looking forward to this development.  So - do we all think he's playing Indy's son?

JoSpiv

very cool news.

I've always loved the other 3.

I read this on the Fox411.com website.

But of course, we were most interested in talking with George Lucas, the affable genius film director who occasionally graces us in New York with an appearance. Lucas is absolutely one of my favorite people, a lovely guy who seems unaffected by his enormous success.

Lucas is currently preparing "Indiana Jones 4" with Harrison Ford, Blanchett and Shia LaBoeuf. The latter plays Ford's son, which means his mother was possibly the character Karen Allen played in "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

"I can't say," Lucas said when I brought up Allen.

Lucas says that Sean Connery still hasn't signed on, but his character, Indy's dad, is in the script. Other than that, his lips are sealed.

"Steven thinks we can keep the whole thing a secret," Lucas told me. "I explained to him that it's impossible nowadays. We can't live like that."

So then, tell me more about "Indy 4," I suggested.

"Oh no," replied Lucas with a smile.

Here we go.... let the rumors begin. This is from Scifi.com

Indy 4 Plot Rumors Posted

C.H.U.D. reported a rumor that the upcoming fourth Indiana Jones movie begins with a fight between Indy and the Russians in Area 51 and deals with a story reminiscent of Erich Von Daniken's Chariots of the Gods? In that book, the author posits that aliens provided technology to ancient races.

Citing anonymous sources, the site said that the sequel, unofficially called Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods, will shoot near Los Angeles and in New Haven, Conn.; New Mexico; and Hawaii.

Shia LaBeouf's character, meanwhile, will be a '50s "greaser" type, with jeans, a leather jacket and a motorcycle, who will be thrown together with Indy. They will learn they're related in a pivotal action scene, the site reported.

The site added that the rumored details of the plot conform with those in the earlier Frank Darabont script, which ultimately wasn't used; it involves crystal skulls and aliens and takes place partly in South American temples.

Very cool. I don't think aliens is much of a stretch for this series. They've had eternal knights, and the wrath of God contained in the ark. It is a decidedly metaphysical series, so this works for me.

From the sound of those rumours, the movie is going to be a lot of fun. I like that it will be set in the 50's as well, so I am hoping it really has a 50's look to it.

CHUD is reporting that Karen Allen will return to the Indiana Jones franchise for the series’ fourth installent.

Allen played Marion Ravenwood in the original “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and has been rumored to reprise the role in each of the last two installments of the Indy series. Speculation has it that Marion would return and be revealed as the mother of Indy’s son, played by Sabia LaBouf.

As of now, these are just rumors and nothing official has been confirmed by the studio or anyone officially involved with the production.

Rico

I would love to see Karen Allen return.  By far my favorite of the Indy girls and the only one I could see Indy having a kid with.

I have mixed feelings about this film. I figured from the start that if they did another film Indy would have to have a son so the franchise torch can be passed to the next generation. I personally think Ford is too old to pull Indy off effectively (at least as an action hero). Even though the main players are involved is no guarantee of a good film and I predict it will be the worst of the series. I'll see it of course but in general I don't look on this as good news.

It's nice to see some positive thinking for once. lol

Seriously, though, while I share your concerns, I prefer to wait until the movie is actually made and I get to see it before passing judgment. I'm not a huge fan of pointless sequels, but I respect Ford enough to know he's going to at least try to make this, his Indy Swan Song, the best one, or at least a good way to pass the torch.

Hopefully it won't be like when Kirk meets HIS son!
