Details on the next Indy film just in....

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- George Lucas said Friday that filming of the long-awaited "Indiana Jones" movie will begin next year. Harrison Ford, who appeared in the three earlier flicks, the last one coming in 1989, is set to star again. Lucas said he and Steven Spielberg recently finalized the script for the film.

"It's going to be fantastic. It's going to be the best one yet," the 62-year-old filmmaker said during a break from preparing for his duties as grand marshal of Monday's Rose Parade.

Exact film locations have not been decided yet, but Lucas said part of the movie will be shot in Los Angeles.

The fourth chapter of the "Indiana Jones" saga, which will hit theaters in May 2008, has been in development for over a decade with several screenwriters taking a crack at the script, but it only recently gained momentum.

Lucas kept mum about the plot, but said that the latest action flick will be a "character piece" that will include "very interesting mysteries."

"I think it's going to be really cool," Lucas said.

At the inaugural Rome Film Festival in October, the 64-year-old Ford said he was excited to team up with Lucas and Spielberg again for the fourth "Indiana Jones" installment. Ford said he was "fit to continue" to play the title role despite his age.

Ford played Indiana Jones in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark," 1984's "Temple of Doom" and 1989's "The Last Crusade."

Lucas praised Ford for breathing life into his character.

"Mostly it's the charm of Harrison that makes it work," he said.

Sounds good to me.  I love the Indiana Jones character and movies.

Thats great that they have finally gotten the script finalized and are going to proceed. This has taken so long, that I thought it would never happen.

I am somewhat surprised and happy that Harrison Ford will be playing Indiana as he is in his sixties and for awhile their he was not sure if he was going to reprise his role.

Spielberg's people have backed off from this statement.  They say the word "hopefully" should be in there a few times.

During the Rose Bowl Parade today, George Lucas himself said they are working on the Indianna Jones movie and hope to bring it to us next year.  Cool!

He was the Grand Marshall of the parade!

More Indy IV Details Emerge

George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford have confirmed that a fourth installment in the Indiana Jones franchise is set to begin filming this June, Variety reported. News of the long-awaited sequel film first broke on Dec. 29, as Lucas was preparing to serve as grand marshal of the Rose Parade on New Year's Day. The script by David Koepp (Spider-Man, War of the Worlds) has been finalized and Paramount is eyeing a worldwide release in 2008, the trade paper reported.

Ford will once again reprise his role as the adventuring archeologist in the next film. The 64-year-old actor assured fans that he is up to the physical demands of the role. "I'm delighted to be back in business with my old friends," Ford said. "I don't know if the pants still fit, but I know the hat will."

Meanwhile, Spielberg, who may direct the film, told the trade paper that he's pleased with how the script turned out. "We feel that the script was well worth the wait. We hope it delivers everything you'd expect from our history with Indiana Jones," Spielberg said. "George, Harrison and I are all very excited."

The third film in the series, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, was released in 1989. The new film doesn't yet have an official title.

I am hoping the Spielberg will direct, it would not feel right if he did not.

saunders

I hope this does finally happen.  There sure have been a lot of false start rumors on this project for years.   I'm wondering what time period they'll set it in.   I always liked Indy going up against the Nazis.  I assume they'll move the story forward to adjust for Harrison's age.  If "Raiders" took place in the late 30's  and it was made about 25 years ago or so, will this one take place in the 60's?  That just seems like it's not the right time period for Dr Jones.  I'm sure whatever they do that these are the guys who can pull it off.

Man, May 08 is PACKED!!

Trek XI, and now INDY!!!  Wow, this is such a big breath of fresh air it ain't even funny.

BJ
Love Star Trek TOS & TNG (never really got into DS9, Voyager, or Enterprise).  Also love Star Wars (everything save for the prequels...), and Indiana Jones, and ElfQuest, basically anything remotely SF or fantasy is my bag, tho I tend more towards SF than I do fantasy.

jedijeff

Wow both Indy and Trek in that month, that will be fantastic. I am looking forward to them starting to shoot Indy, and hearing more news on it.

Rico

When did Trek 11 get a release date of May 2008?  I think it will be late 2008.

Indy Has a Son

Indiana Jones has a son and his name is Shia LaBeouf, that is if all the negotiations get finalized, and we have no reason to think they won’t.

While we don’t have any details of the script, Spielberg and company have a vice-grip on it tighter than the lid of a crusty old jar of Jiffy, we can tell you that it comes from screenwriter David Koepp. He is the same guy behind the written words of “Spider Man.”

Of course the great Harrison Ford returns as the famed archeologist, and the rumor is Sean Connery is back to reprise the role of Indy’s dad, so it will be a three generation film.

Shooting begins this June and the movie is scheduled for a May 22, 2008 release.

One question â€" Who’s the mama?
