Well I just started off  a few of the 80+ quests. They have really taken the storytelling to the next level. This is gonna be fun.

Big waits to get on the server, but it's fun once you get in.  Got my Flying in the old world paid for.  Glad the price was what I thought it was.  At least for the base flying.  So fun to fly around Stormwind and see it from the air.  Really looks amazing!

Yeah, I have work friends on Keal'thas and they don't have queues. Earthen Ring is a very high population server. The queues should die down in the next few days.

Yep - it was the same with Lich King and queues.  Not a big deal.  You know one thing I wished they added was more character slots.  I'm kind of an alt-aholic.  With these added races I'm pretty filled out now.  Maybe tonight I'll try to pop over and do a few 80+ quests.  Where's the best place to start for that and is it easy to get to?

Well on the Horde side, the second you arrive in Orgimmar you automatically get a quest notification which tells you to go talk to a guy who brings you up to speed and pushes you into the new content. Much better then Lich King where you had to figure out on your own to go to Northrend.

I am rethinking the Worgen now because of one of those first few quests you do in Hyjal has you fighting the evil worgen...and the sound effects on that special attack they do thats like a beserker slice attack?  My god how annoying!  I was so glad when those things phased away into oblivion.  I was actually considering druid for my Worg but if I have to listen to that slicing sound for the whole levelling process I may lose it!

Joe, is Gatherer working for the new zones yet?  Is there a shared database for locations of resources or does it only remember where you personally have found them?  I have found about three herbs in as many hours in Hyjal, it is picked clean.  I want to start levelling my Inscription and there's no way I'm buying herbs of the AH.

I started in Mt. Hyjal, because I'm a little wary of the other 80+ starting zone being that its completely underwater.  It's exactly like WOTLK in that there are two discrete zones to start in that are level appropriate for maxed out 80s.  I figured that Hyjal would be a little more familiar and I was right.  The quests are cool and fun but certainly not groundbreaking.  One of the first ones you do has you fighting one of the old bosses from Molten Core!  Neat stuff.  Tthe only problem was of course the crowds, but Blizz sems to have speeded up the spawn rates on quest mobs so people are usually in and out.  Bigger problems are quests that make you loot items off of the ground, people are savages swooping in as soon as they see them.

I'm in the underwater zone, it's a lot of fun.

With the whole pushing you along, I wonder if any exp. for level 80's can be had in the old, upper level Northrend zones?

Jobydrone

Level 80+ only get 10% of the XP from creatures killed in Northrend zones.  They are really trying to encourage people to level in the new areas, and this keeps folks that are maxed out on gear from AOE farming older, easier mobs to quickly level up.  They have really buffed the power on trash mobs everywhere inthe new zones.

I still think this is a mistake on their part.  And, with level 85 players already in game it obviously doesn't really matter as far as leveling speed when you average it all out.  Eventually you have to go to the next zones.  Thanks Blizzard for adding to the new zone crowding.

billybob476

I doubt many people would be sticking around in Northrend at this point. The crowding will subside quickly. I remeber the first few days of WotLK, Borean Tundra was a madhouse. Not many people hung around in Shadowmoon Valley trying to level to 71.

Not trying to level, but finishing old quests (and getting the normal exp. from killing things still).  Yeah, most wouldn't do it, but why penalize those that want to finish some stuff up?

On another note, I'm a little concerned about my 80 mage, who has pretty weak gear, in the new zones getting his tiny little gnome behind pounded.  Had the same trouble in Outland and Northrend each time in the first zones.  I'm sure I'll manage, but that's another reason I like to have the option to stay back a bit, if I decided to do that.

billybob476

Hm, I don't raid so I'm only in 3 pieces of "entry level" T10 gear. I haven't been having any issues. So far I haven't even had to shield myself when fighting mobs. It may be a bit more of a challenge but I think you should be ok. You also have your water elemental to help you out!

This is a legitimate concern but remember that quest rewards very quickly even out the playing field.  My mage was decked out in the full set of 10 man Naxxaramas purples (Item level 200) which is pretty far below anyone that geared up in Ulduar or ICC.  I was shocked at how much damage I took from the first trash mobs I encountered in Hyjal.  Pulling an add could very well end in death (and did a couple of times) especially if you don't remember all the ins and outs of the character like me.  I wouldn't worry too much though Rico, after all you don't want things to be too easy do you?  Frost Mages are probably at the top of the charts when it comes to survivability when soloing, along with hunters and Warlocks who never have to take damage at all.  You've got alot of escape options at your disposal.
