I thought Forbes was a little harsh with their review of a fun summer popcorn movie but it's hard to miss the point that these movies have gotten really, really expensive to make.
Three flops in a row would probably devastate a studio.
Now I wonder if the next Trek movie will follow the same strategy.

For now on:
Any new movie based on a board game get's a per-worldwide release.
New movies based on comics book super heroes gets a simultaneous release.
And if the studios are smart - The next few Trek movies and the Forbidden Planet remake must have a per-release advance screening on Treks-in-scifi.

They really have to be careful about having the releases spread out too far - especially in the age of digital movie distribution.  Pretty darn easy to have these movies "leak out" on to the net if you hold them back from the people who want to see them.  A couple of days - maybe a week I can see, longer than that will only cause trouble.

I am shocked that the film has yet to be released in the States!  :jawdrop

I agree that film studios need to be careful otherwise our old friend 'Bit  Torrents' will become more popular! ;)

I assume that there's some sort of 'science' to this whole phased release thing, but I can't work out what it is.

What's the point of holding back the release anywhere. Surely it's better just to let what money you're going to get roll in as quickly as possible?

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

I'm hoping to go see this on Sat. Liam Neeson is in it so it should be a good one. I read about this in the Sci-Fi magazine and it had some interesting things to say about how they tried to get game elements into the movie. Should be something fun to watch for.

The wife and I did see this yesterday. We both enjoyed it but I did like it more that she did. I give the movie a 9. It was very well done and there are some great special effects and I thought the story was good with some of the people that showed up to help. They did get elements of the game into the movie but it wasn't over done.
There is an actor in this named Gregory D. Gadson and he is an acual Army vet who was injured in battle. He had a great part in the movie. Here is a link for info on him. Check out the video clip.
Brooklyn Decker is in the movie so thats nice for the eyes. Also there is a Battleship in this movie and it's used in an awesome manner!
Just saw this today and enjoyed it.  Definitely a popcorn movie and lots of fun.  Not a deep plot obviously but some amazing visuals and most of the characters didn't act dumb - which is refreshing.  Worth a look see if you enjoy this type of movie.

Bad luck that it's competing against two juggernauts, Avengers and MIB.

Hope this doesn't stop production of any new projects.
I'm still waiting for a 'Forbidden Planet' remake.

U saw this movie today and enjoyed it. Lots of Action and the effects were great. I found the pace of it pretty good as well, it seemed to move fast for the length it was.

batmite

I am going to have to see this one afterall.

Oh good, I was worried they borrowed too much from Transformers ;). I'll try and see this one in theaters, but...unsure.

I read somewhere there is a scene at the end of the credits. I didn't stay for it. Did anybody stay or hear about this?
