Gee - lookey there.  A prediction for a higher res. iPad screen.  Now, why on earth would anyone want that?  ;)

In regards to the iPad3, we agreed. :)

I think Apple always holds a few things back.  I will bet money that iPad 3 increases resolution by a significant amount.  I was just hoping for a bit of a bump this time too.  I'm still on fence about getting one but a higher resolution would have sealed the deal for me.

I wouldn't take that bet!  Like I mentioned, next gen and now possibly seeing that in September if some of the rumors prove to be true. With a March 11th date for this model, it's possible...

Bryan you posted other times that you saw no need for higher resolution.  I've been hoping and preaching for higher res. since iPad 1.  Anyway, sorry to clog the iPhone thread with iPad talk.  But it all kind of blends together.

I said no need for the 2nd gen. This is what I said regarding iPad 3. I agreed with you in the above post. Go back and read it. You wanted high res for iPad2. I suggested what they needed was the camera and a fast browser while keeping the price point the same in the face of the new pads coming out at the time, that high res wasn't what consumers were looking for in iPad 2. Go back and read the thread, it's all there. Or just read the quote above. You said you would bet iPad 3 would have high res and I said I wouldn't take that bet, meaning I agreed.

Rumors still flying for the iPhone 5 by October and maybe an iPad 3 by then too.

Rumor: Suppliers preparing for October launch of Apple's iPhone 5, iPad 3

Apple's component suppliers in Taiwan are gearing up and preparing materials for the production of the iPhone 5 and iPad 3, set to hit the market in October, according to a new report.

Citing sources in Apple's supply chain, DigiTimes reported on Friday that the fifth-generation iPhone and third-generation iPad will debut in September, and go on sale in October. It was said that Apple will only launch one new iPhone model, while the iPad 3 was just recently added to production schedule.

"Apple is considering designing an even thinner and lighter tablet PC with its panel resolution increasing to 250dpi," the report said. No details on what the next iPhone might feature were given.

Apple is expected to produce between 6 million and 7 million iPhone 5 units in the third quarter, and with the iPhone 4, total shipments will reach 24 million to 25 million units. And with the supposed launch of a third-generation iPad, total iPad sales could crack 40 million in 2011.

Named in the report are suppliers Simplo Technologies and Dynapack International Technology as battery suppliers; TPK Holding and Wintek for touch panels; Catcher supplying chassis; and Largan Precision providing cameras. As usual the devices will be assembled by Foxconn.

While a fifth-generation iPhone is widely expected to launch later this year, rumors of a third-generation iPad launching as well are not new, but still surprising. The iPad 2 launched in March, and Apple even appeared to downplay rumors of a new iPad arriving this year by declaring 2011 the "Year of iPad 2."

Friday's news contradicts a report from earlier this week that pegged a so-called "iPad 3" launch in 2012. FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger said his supply chain sources indicated a prototype iPad 3 would be made early next year.

And Apple has even struggled to meet demand for the iPad 2 since it went on sale earlier this year. Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook said crushing demand for the second-generation tablet created "the mother of all backlogs" for Apple.

Is it just or me or is the iPhone becoming like iTunes?   Seems like they just came out with i4

I am hoping for the iPhone 5 this September, along with the release of iOS 5.  And it better support 4G LTE as well as the fast iPad 2 processor and an even better camera

I would be very surprised if they announce the iPad 3 in October.  I think that is best announced for the Christmas buying season.

iPhone 4 came out last year September if I'm not incorrect.  And yeah, Apple devices get updated on a yearly basis.

I agree with Rick, I don't think it is coming in October, they still haven't managed to meet demand with the iPad 2.

I highly doubt that iPAD will release this year. That would seriously alienate most of the customers that are buying the v2

Guys, the iPhone 4 was about a year ago, June 2010.  As far as exactly when version 5 happens for it or the iPad 3, it's all still rumors.  But I would be shocked if we don't see a new iPhone before the end of this year.

Oh yeah, iPhone 5 will be out this year, that I'm sure of, but iPad 3?  Not likely.

I read some rumors about a new form factor that will be 'tear drop shaped'.  That doesn't sound too plausible to me.  They'll have to do a retool of the case design to address the antenna issues.  The contract is up on my 3Gs - so I am ready for a new version.

Not a big shocker here, but there are predictions that the next iPhone may be available on all the major carriers here in the US when it launches.  Makes sense to me.

Doubtful. You seriously think that HTC will put Apple out of the smartphone market? No way.

billybob476

The biggest competition to Apple seems to be Samsung lately, the Galaxy S2 is a great phone. Does this mean Samsung will put Apple out of the market? no way, Can Apple put Samsung or HTC out of the market? Unlikely. Stating opinions as facts do not make them true.

QuadShot

At this point, unless one of them comes up with something completely revolutionary, they'll keep their own market segments. I think there's room for Apple, Samsung and HTC in the smartphone arena. But to say HTC will push Apple out...uh huh. I think that I'm a pretty good example of the typical Apple fan.  I purchased my iPhone 4 the day they came out. Lately it's been running slow, glitching, stuff like that, but you know what? I'm still loving the product. My point is that it doesn't really matter HOW fancy HTC, or Samsung, or ANYONE makes their product, even the flipping Flash issue, if you like the iPhone and Apple products, you're sticking with them. Same with the other companies. We could debate this ad nauseum, but the plain truth of the matter is age-old: I like what I like, you like what you like, and not much will ever change that...my 2 cents.
