Just read on a website that they may delay the iPhone 5 till next year. This is due to healthy sales still occurring for the 4, coupled with the recent launch of the White model in certain countries.

iPhone 4S Arriving This Fall With More Carriers?
By Darrell Etherington May. 13, 2011, 12:45pm PT 12 Comments

Apple's next iPhone will be called the 4S, and won't offer much beyond minor cosmetic changes, better front and back cameras, an A5 dual-core processor and HSPA+ support, according to Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek (via Forbes ). The information comes from industry checks performed by the investment banking firm.

Apple is also likely to announce Sprint, T-Mobile and China Mobile as new carrier partners, according to Misek's research note. T-Mobile expansion is already expected if the AT&T / T-Mobile merger goes through. The addition of Sprint would mean Apple's reach would extend to all major U.S. carriers, and China Mobile signing on would mean that the iPhone would become available to over 600 million potential subscribers.

While analyst expectations are not always the most dependable source of information, this report is in keeping with what we've been hearing about Apple's next iPhone revision. Rumors abound that we won't see any new hardware introduced at WWDC this June, and fall has been widely cited as the most likely candidate for an iPhone update. The iPhone "4s" name has also surfaced before, back in April when it was used to describe a prototype handset being circulated by Apple among developers with an A5 chip for use in creating next-gen games. Supplier checks also often reveal clues about future Apple products, since the third-party supply chain isn't as easily guarded as Apple itself.

Misek also claims that LTE chipsets from Qualcomm aren't yet ready for mass production of the next iPhone, so we won't see LTE support in the next hardware revision.

Take this report with a grain of salt, but if Apple decides to repeat what it did with the iPhone 3G and 3GS with the iPhone 4 and its successor, this does match with what I'd expect to see from a hardware update. What do you think about this latest next-gen iPhone rumor?

I find the carrier rumor interesting, but it would be nice.  Sprint unlimited network with an iPhone?  Nice.

I think it's a strong chance it will be a 4S...but a 5 is possible too.

All the networks now cater for the iPhone over here, but there's not much in the way of competition on tariffs, but the update makes sense. Tide us over till the 5 is released

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/05/18/digitimes-lte-iphone-in-2012-apple-lowering-iphone-4-orders/

Digitimes reports that Apple has lowered its iPhone 4 shipment volume for calendar Q2 2011 in anticipation of slower sales as the company prepares to unveil a new iPhone in September. Digitimes says supply chain makers have confirmed Apple has lowered iPhone 4 shipments from 20 million units down to 17.5-18 million units. Of those, 16 million units will be the GSM version, while 1.5-2 million units will be the CDMA version.

In a second report, Digitimes says Apple is unlikely to unveil an LTE-equipped iPhone before 2012. This isn't really new; there have been numerous reports that LTE chipsets aren't currently made small enough to fit in the iPhone's form factor, and even if they were, they aren't available in the quantity Apple would need to satiate consumer demand for the next iPhone.

So basically, if your looking for LTE in the next iPhone, don't count on it.  Personally, not surprised.  Also, don't care.  I don't need to pay more to the carriers for my phone thank you very much...and the LTE service is still limited anyway.

Just read an interesting story to the effect that Apple filed for a patent for a technology that will automatically disable the iPhone camera when it senses that a user is attempting to film a live concert or sporting event.  Aparrently it involves some type of infrared sensor that, when detected, automatically shuts off the camera functionality.  This would have to be used in conjunction with an arena or performer that utilizes the tech themselves for the phone to recognize.

Although this could be quite a ways off, I imagine many users will not be thrilled with their camera phones being disabled by "big brother" without their control.

Yeah, heard about this, I'm worried this sort of technology could be used by the cops to "keep the peace".  (or censorship) =\

Thankfully, Apple files a lot of patents that never see the light of day in the real world.  So lets just hope this is one of those technologies =/

Gee - lookey there.  A prediction for a higher res. iPad screen.  Now, why on earth would anyone want that?  ;)

Bromptonboy

Good news.  My 3Gs is getting long in the tooth and has a cracked screen.  I have been holding out for the newest iPhone.  I hope they come out with a 64GB version - that might be a forlorn hope though.

I think Apple always holds a few things back.  I will bet money that iPad 3 increases resolution by a significant amount.  I was just hoping for a bit of a bump this time too.  I'm still on fence about getting one but a higher resolution would have sealed the deal for me.

I wouldn't take that bet!  Like I mentioned, next gen and now possibly seeing that in September if some of the rumors prove to be true. With a March 11th date for this model, it's possible...

New iPads would most likely be announced Feb 2012-ish if they keep to schedule. A new iPad so soon wouldn't be a good business move in my mind.

Pretty much my thought too.  We won't see anything until 2012 at the earliest.
