Well, what they needed to do with this update is address the immediate competition and hold the price point. This is a huge win for them, if I were Motorolla or RIM I would be very worried.
Who is the immediate competition? I'm still trying to figure that one out. So far, the specs haven't blown away one of my fav devices, but I think that this is the Apple of old that I like. They are trying to give you more bang for your buck and I really value that.

They don't need to beat the specs, they just need to be even because they are Apple and it's the product and eco-system people want to have.

I'm sold, I could care less that the Xoom has slightly better specs, Apple has a guaranteed ecosystem that won't screw me over unlike Verizon.
