@Sheldor, ppl seem to think so.  Its probably thinner because they wanted to make it lighter (guessing) and making it lighter isn't a bad thing.  :)

The reason for the lighter, thinner design is to make it more attractive against the Kindle which is much lighter than the iPad.  Not that it makes a big difference to someone who needs the power and flexibility of the iPad (versus the Kindle or Nook), but as a marketing point, they want to be able to counter the marketing comparison of carrying weight.

My wife is patiently waiting for the iPad v2 to come out so she can claim my current device because she knows I am getting the new one because of the cameras and possible faster processor and memory options.  The louder speaker is a nice touch -- there are many times when you cannot hear the output from an iPad in busy venues and need headphones.

Sadly, I'm still not tempted (until my eyes go and I can't see the iPhone anymore!). I was expecting the old geek-lust to kick in for this device but it hasn't happened yet.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Well, Kevin Rose of Digg says the iPad 2 is definitely coming very soon  and even suggests not buying the current iPad until the new one arrives.  Cool!  :)

If you haven't gotten the iPad 1.0 by now, wait till 2.0 comes out, at the very least it will be cheaper (since that follows typical tech trends).  Signs do seem to be pointing to February as the release date.  I can't wait, I've got everything ready for it, just waiting for it :D

Not so sure about the cheaper cost.  I can even see it costing a bit more.  Adding in cameras, other improvements, etc.  Frankly, I think we might be lucky if they hold the cost the same but add the additional stuff.

I was just having this conversation with a client. I think they will try and hold the current price point and discount the gen 1 to clear the inventory. The iPad is really perfectly priced for what it offers and what people are willing to pay for both a pad and an Apple branded product. They will want to avoid overlaping the MacAir pricing with the iPad.

I meant that the iPad 1.0 will be cheaper, iPad 2.0 will be at least the same cost.  Or so I hope, I heard that China is raising mineral prices by 25% so we'll see if that affects Apple or not.

I always thought Apple when bringing a new version out, doesn't carry the old one anymore?  Or do you mean for the month or two between announcement of iPad 2 and it being actually in stores?  Do you expect you will be able to walk in the Apple store and be able to buy iPad 1 or iPad 2 at the same time in a couple months?

I mean at their retail partners like Best Buy and WalMart and you are correct, once the new versions is released, Apple won't carry the V1.0 in their retail stores or online.

Here lately that hasn't been the case.  If I remember correctly the 3GS of the iPhone is still available.  Albeit at 8GB size, but still on Apple's Online store.  If not Apple, certainly from some other online retailer.

No, its pretty unlikely you'll be able to go to an Apple store and buy iPad 1.0 and 2.0 at the same time.  Online store is one thing, but I've noticed that old products do not stay in their regular retail stores.

Just checked, 3GS of the iPhone is available on the Apple Online store.  8GB for $49.  Wowsers, that's cheap.  Though 8GB is hardly that big a size...

They would have the drop the price A LOT to entice people I think to buy version one with version two coming in just a few weeks time.

Well, it depends, this is where the aspirational side of Apple's power comes into play. If someone can buy an iPad at a 30% discount and all they are loosing in their minds is the camera but they get to own an Apple product, that could be incentive enough. We'll see what WalMart does, that should be interesting.
