Was your mom or dad a trekkie?

My mom liked to watch the show too, but always said Dr. Spock  :-\

Mom is something of a Trekkie fan.  She's not quite like me, who watches each and every series and knows them by heart ;).  But if it hadn't been for her, I might never have been introduced to the Trek Series.  (It took some years after I first saw Star Wars/Trek to REALLY get into it)  My Dad has a very limited interest.  But its better than no interest at all.

Surrounded by non-geeks makes my life difficult.  :(

Dad. He and I would watch it together in the early '70's. Good times. :)

Yep...My dad. He's not your typical fan though. He grew up on westerns. His heroes are John Wayne, Hop Along Cassidy, Louis L'Amour and Zane Grey . But he liked Star Trek too. He introduced me to it when I expressed an interest in Star Wars.  I started watching the TOS reruns with him when I was four or five years old. :)

My dad was a Western, Action kind of guy.  Mom really had no interest in Science fiction either, but my brother who is six years older was a geek.  So that helped.  I liked science fiction since I was little.  I've always been interested in space.  My babysitters husband was really into music and electronics and stuff, he kind of introduced me to tv and space shows.  My folks never discouraged me though.  They never really understood my geekiness.  I was REALLY into Star Wars and Westworld, stuff like that.  I read the Martian Chronicles so many times it wasn't funny.   But I owe my Trek exposure to my brother Ron.

My dad liked the show but a trekkie ?  Umm --no.  FYI - I don't consider myself a trekkie either.   For goodness sake, get a LIFE.  Its...its just a TV SHOW!!

Neither of my parents were/are into sci-fi or Star Trek. They tolerated my interest in the show as a kid of ten but my father quite often made fun of it and thought it was too far out there. I have always loved sci-fi and Star Trek especially but my pursuit has been mostly a lonely and solitary existence. My wife is the only other person who has any appreciaion for the show.

I'm glad that you found treks in sci fi.  I like being NOT lonely.  :)

My Dad.

Star Trek was a huge bonding experience when I was growing up-- it was always something we could both enjoy together.  The first time I watched many of the TOS reruns was with my father.

One of my favorite memories is seeing Star Trek IV with my dad and younger brother when it premiered in theaters.  I'm not sure why IV stands out;  the family saw all of the Trek Movies together as they came out, but none of the others stick out in my mind like IV does.

Neither of my parents were into Star Trek.  My father was into Western television shows and novels.  My mother was into the soap operas,  It was my older brother that got me into SciFi.  I would sit in his lap and watch Star Trek with him when I was five or six years old.  I was hooked on SciFi from that point on.  I didn't get hooked on Star Trek until it was on in reruns in the early 1970's.  A couple of years ago, my mother was surprised to see that I still watched the show.

Neither of my parents.. My Dad shares my love for sci fi and fantasy and is a huge Star Wars fan but never got into Star Trek.. and my mom isn't into sci fi at all.

My Mom could care less.  My Dad liked the show and loved the movies but I wouldn't classify him as a trekkie.  Although I do remember both he and I choking up when Scottie was playing "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes at Spocks funeral at the end of WoK.  I was...lessee...10 years old in '82 when we went to see it in the theaters.  He enjoyed it but was not fanatical about Trek.

My dad was definitely a fan. We'd watch TNG all together (my mom as well but she was indifferent to the show overall) on Saturdays at 7.
