Trekcore.com needs a few donations
« on: April 20, 2008, 07:11:08 AM »
The excellent web site, Trekcore.com needs some donations to help pay for their web hosting.  This is a great site that I use and visit almost daily.  I already sent them a donation.  If you feel like helping out with $5 or $10 or whatever, please do.  If you do, maybe mention Treks in Sci-Fi sent you over to donate.  Let them know that the Trek sites are sticking together and helping each other out to grow and expand.  Here's what they have to say with a link below to go to the donation page.

FROM TREKCORE.COM

As you are aware, we've had some downtime the last week or so while we moved some of our content to different servers.  What precipitated this was our host's request to reduce the number of files we had on our site, or upgrade to dedicated hosting.

After weighing the options, we felt there was no possible way for us to pay $2400 a year for dedicated, so we worked with Hostgator to come up with a solution whereby we split our site up over several different shared accounts (four in total).  This solution, is much, much more affordable, at $465.00 per year.

TrekCore is passionate about content, quality, and NO ADS!  We really don't want to bog the site down by bringing advertisers in.  We want you to have the content, for free, without closing pop up ads, or having flash ads annoy you.

That being said, the money for the hosting must be fundraised to keep us going.  It's not a huge amount, and certainly something the visitors of this site are more than capable of raising easily.

DONATE NOW, EVERY AMOUNT HELPS!  Keep TrekCore Online & AD FREE!

Heck yeah!

I really like their site too. I didn't know they where having trouble keeping the lights on till I was poking around and found this thread.
Tried the fundraiser link but got a 404 error, so I sent off an email requesting more info. I'll let you guys know when I get a response.

If you believe in what they are doing for the Trek community - I think we should send a little love their way too :)

Good news regarding the Trekcore.com fund raiser:

Hi Dave,

We actually reached our goal to pay for server costs for a year so we closed down the fundraiser.  Check in again next year and we'll have a new campaign.

Thanks!

If you haven't been by yet - Trekcore has a great collection of media interviews, screen captures, art work and audio samples.
The Virtual Reality videos of the different bridges are pretty cool too!

A good example is the Voyager bridge and workstations:

If you need the VR browser plug in, get it free at:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/player/.

These linkable panoramas are easy to build with software like VR tool worx:

Trekcore.com is doing their annual donation drive.  This is an awesome site and I get many of my Daily Trek Pics from them.  If you guys feel like donating maybe $5 or $10, I know Mike over there would appreciate it.  And if you do make a donation, make sure to say Rico from the "Treks in Sci-Fi Podcast" sent you over.

Link to donate for this year:
