Great stuff you guys. It's always awesome to learn more from friends.

As some of you may know, I am a graphic designer and I currently work for a small publishing company in Mexico City. I am about to open up my own design and communications studio but things had been slow on that front  due to my upcoming wedding.

I am working on my website so I will let you all know so you can drop by and see my work.

I'm a web application developer for a large culinary institution. I work primarily in Coldfusion. On top of that I work with a small consulting firm with some buddies at night doing pretty much the same thing with a bit more focus on .NET.

When I tell people what I do they always respond: "oh, you make websites". My response is "No, I make websites DO things."

Jen

Nice! I usually tell people that "I design web sites...some one else makes them do things".

I'm a "Curriculum Graphics Developer" in a small office where I help to create classroom and computer based training material.

We produce live action video, computer animation and 3D illustration - anything to create courseware for our client's student pilots.

This field can be pretty challenging - often times I'm asked what the best format may be to illustrate a procedure or concept - so I find myself learning more about aviation than I ever thought I would

As a result I think my dream job would be - a commercial aircraft pilot.

I am currently working in collision parts at a large auto dealer group.  I am responsible to arrange all the parts from order to delivery that a job requires, plus all the paperwork, etc...  It's below my experience level (I was  Service and Parts Director of a dealership) and the pay sucks, however, after my wife passed away I had to scale back my ambitions so that I could raise my 3 kids.  This job is 7-4:30, and no weekends and very secure, perfect to raise kids by myself.
From here to the eyes and the ears of the 'Verse, that's my motto or might be if I start having a motto.

You Rock Todd.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife.  That must have been very, very  hard.

That is cool that you love your kids so much.

Your sacrifice with the job will pay off in the end.

:)

Kids are so worth it.

Again, welcome to the forums.

I have been and always will be, your friend.

Sounds like you made the right choice Todd. To many places want so much of your time, and in the end it is not worth it. Family first is the most important thing, and all these companies with hollow "Work/Life" policies a distant second. Wish you all the best, and I am sure your Kids will grow up the better for it.

Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

Interesting stuff folks.  Always neat to hear what other folks do.
