I have been so focused on getting ready to do the DUNE cast with Chris I totally missed this was coming up! I LOVE this movie and should have sent in comments at the least! Sorry for dropping the ball, Dave, but can't wait to hear the show!

Thanks Bryan - comments are a great idea, maybe a drop folder for submissions if there isn't one already.
I'm learning as I go and try to pick up ideas from you guys.

Troopers has so many great quotes and Mr.Rasczak citizenship class would be perfect at a Klingon Acadamy, lol!

One of my favorite books.  When I was in the Army, we all used to love his dedication 'To The Everlasting Glory Of The Infantry'.  Love the 'Moral History' class, and the service for citizenship idea.

The Romans had the same ideas.
The recruits could have been fighting in the legions.

Great podcast Davekill!  I love this movie and couldn't wait until work tomorrow to listen.  I liked how you slipped in some behind the scenes commentary into the podcast.

davekill

Thanks! I learned a lot too. Like no matter what country it was pre screened in, the audience objected to Carmen's relationship with Zander.
All returned comments were that, though she broke up with him, she should be true to Johnny Rico.

Paul Verhoeven cut the scene where Carmen and Zander kissed because the audience would yell and throw stuff at the screen :)

Pity the only live performance of the movie theme to be found is an amateur video.
Other than the rock band Yes song called Starship Trooper, which isn't bad either.

There are plenty of other live performances and tributes to Basil Poledouris.
He passed away at age 61 in 2006. rip

I LOVE the music from this movie. Bought it on CD way back when the movie came out.

Great podcast, really brought me back. I actually saw this like 5 times in the theater...I usually took someone different. I was very surprised it didn't do better, it's a real fun movie.

Great job, Dave! Yeah, I never understood why it seemed nobody "got" the joke in regards to this movie. It's so over the top, tongue in cheek and yet people criticise it like it's a Nazi propaganda film! Also, I think the effects were amazing. I can honestly say i have never seen a CGI human body ripped to shreds with better effect then in this movie. And the bug effects were top notch along with the miniature work. Still looks amazing today.

Seriously, one of my favourite guilty pleasure movies. Also, if you haven't read the book, it's incredible. Pretty much nothing like the movie but a very compelling, intelligent and quick read! I can't recommend it enough.

Thanks guys - I'm glad this movie hasn't been forgotten.
I'm going to read Heinlein's Novel next.

I've been watching the CG animated series 'Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles'
The Roughnecks use drop capsules and power armor suits.
This 40 episode series is one big arch and seems like it would make a good podcast.
They bring back all the characters seen in the movie including the skinnies from the novel.

Looking forward to Starship Troopers Invasion out next month too!
