I think he said he ripped of the warranty sticker Jen so they might not touch now.

If that is the case there are some DIY kits you can buy to fix the issue. It's usually just some loose soldering that gives you the RROD.

The annoying thing about hawaii is everything good is a few thousand miles away. When my PS2 died we were lucky to have a repair system, it was a 60 dollar repair! but they had to send it to the mainland (or china) so it was around 110 dollars, so we bought a new one

Do a google search for the towel trick.  It has something to do with wrapping the system in a towel and running it for a couple of hours.  This should get it working again, short term.  Then trade it in at Gamestop for store credit and get yourself a couple new PS3 games.  F Microsoft and F Gamestop.

lol too much win this post.

Yes, but you don't need a warranty for the three rings of death (if you've done all the checks listed on their site and it still shows the three rings). You just need the serial number. Mine's been out of warranty for years and after it expired is when I sent it in on three different occasions. :) It is a system flaw that they are obligated to fix for free. Check out the xbox.com site for all instructions on how to do it. Again, they repair it for free. You just have to ship it to them.

They won't touch it if the seals are broken or missing, at least they don't over here. They just return them saying it has been 'tampered with'.

Darkmolerman

lol I am thinking about doing what they think I did, tamper it more

Reading this thread might lead someone to believe this is a common problem with the Xbox. Is this true?

X

Some of the first gen xboxes had this problem. I've had my box for years with no red rings. I did replace a dvd drive on it, but only because I broke the first one.

Jobydrone

I've had a total of four Xbox 360s.  I bought my first on launch day after waiting in line for about twelve hours.  It red ringed after about seven months, before the news had broken about the three red rings being a rampant problem with the system and Microsoft was forced to respond.

I paid about $135 dollars for an out of warranty repair, again this was before they started to offer free repairs for this specific problem.  I found later that they did not actually repair my system, but rather sent me a refurbished, used system.  One that surely had the same defect that my original one did.  The replacement system red ringed almost immediately, after only a couple months of use.

By this time they had begun to offer free out of warranty repairs for the "red rings of death", as well as offering refunds for repair costs that were previously incurred for this problem.  I reported my costs and to this date have never received my refund.

I returned my Xbox a second time, and was again sent a refurbished replacement, which of course red ringed again after a little more use.  This final time I said screw it, retturned my system to a friendly gamestop where the manager knew me well and assured me that my broken system would be returned directly to the manufacturer, and with the store credit bought a new "Arcade" system for $199 bucks which has a new "falcon motherboard" which is supposedly resistant to overheating and the red ring problem.  I have been okay for a couple years now.

The PS3 is a fantastic media playback device. The only reason I keep my 360s around is because I need them to use as Windows Media Center extenders and that UI which is superior to the PS3 XMB.

The new UI update made it hard to check my extra media from my home computer...
