Well said Kenny. I think I like these kind of shows because it features people who have this dream and it sometimes gets realised. With the crappy world we live in today, It's nice to watch some talented people out there

I'm with Meds on this one. They are entertaining to a point but I'm afraid the only winner at the end is good old Simon Cowell...

I would have to disagree with you on that one Dan. Reality TV is what keeps me employed and I watch my fair share of "challenged" kind of shows, Survivor, Amazing Race and Big Brother. But these singing/performing show not only profit for Simon Cowell. But for those people who are talented beyond belief but just don't have an outlet or opportunity to shine. There are a lot of talented people in this world who just need a break.. and these kinds of shows give it to them... and that makes me happy. Doesn't mean I have to watch them or particularly like them but I'm glad they are around for those who need them.

Oh yeah there are plenty of benefits to these shows and we watch a lot of them ourselves. I think the thing that gets to me sometimes are the delluded people at the beginning of the process who really believe they are talented and sometimes their families are just as bad. They get ridiculed for our entertainment. Perhaps these shows should take that part of the process more 'seriously' and do away with putting people through for these reasons.

The 'live show' rounds where the real talent is can be a great, very worthwhile endeavor and opportunity for people who need a break.

I think it's the televising of the early rounds that really make some of these offensive since the focus is almost always on the 'freak show' acts rather than anyone with any ability.

Handle those in private where they belong and make the whole proses a little more friendly and maybe it will get a little more respect in some quarters.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

The point is that these early rounds are only there because they make good TV. The way it works on X Factor and Amercian Idol for example is you queue all day with say 10,000 people at a location obviously not all 10,000 get to see Cowell. You get seen by some production assistants of which there are many groups of them to get through all the applicants. If you are fantastic then you get to see Cowell, if you are average in every way (even if you sing well) you probably don't go any further. If you are crazy, REALLY BAD or have a strange personality you get to see Cowell! Why? Because it makes good 'car crash' TV! So there will always be good singers who will never get a chance...

They will never get rid of these. What's worse is when they get them out to perform at the finale! Terrible...

Well, the final of "Britains Got Talent" was on last night and it was a night to remember. Susan Boyle was the runner-up and the winners were this amazing dance group called "Diversity". I think if you watch this video, you'll agree that the right act won. These guys were awesome throughout the competition and are such good role models for the youth of Britain who are given such a bad rap in the press over here.
Enjoy this video, you'll be amazed.
