Hi jedijeff and Ktrek. I'm also really enjoying the first of the Destiny books. I'm about two-thirds into it and I can't wait to pick off where I left off.

@Dangelus-  I recommend you track down the first New Frontier book and try following that series. It has enough characters and references from TNG to keep it firmly rooted in Trek continuity, while branching out enough to keep it fresh and exciting. And Peter David is one of the best pop-sci-fi writers around; his books are exciting, with just the right mix of adventure, danger, and humor.

The latest "relaunch" of the TNG books is also very enjoyable for the most part. "Death In Winter" is a good jumping-on point.  The books chronicle the post-Nemisis adventures of Picard & crew. The Borg pop up A LOT in the first few books following Death In Winter, but their presence pays off big in the Star Trek: Destiny series.

The Star Trek: Titan books are also a great series if you are a fan of Riker, Deanna, and Tuvok. The series is still fairly new, so you can still readily find most of the books in regular Brick & Mortar bookstores.

I've also found the mirror universe/alternate reality collections highly entertaining.  I think there are 3 or 4 out right now, all taking place either in the Mirror Universe introduced on the Trek TV shows, or in other alternate timelines.

I re-read The Good That Men do after we initially read it for our book club and really, really enjoyed it the second time around.
Kobayashi Maru picks up right after TGTMD, and very good as well. I am really liking the post Enterprise series books

Thanks guys, these sound like my king of Trek novels. I'll see if I can pick some up (cheap!)  :D

I am more than half way through with the new Star Wars book "Jedi Outcast". It's very good. I have "Star Trek" the new movie book in the wings!

"Wheel Of Time: Eye of The World". I listened to "Wheel Of Time: New Spring" last month. I LOVE this series so far! I was completely surprised by it. I had heard of the Wheel Of Time but I passed it by because the art on the cover sucked. Okay...Alright...I know...Never judge a book by it's cover. But art and design is what I do for a living and if the cover doesn't hook me then I have a VERY difficult time buying it. It's why I can't read comicbooks! The novel has to be soooo good that I can look past the 'ugly outside'. :D  Anway, I found New Spring to be a great start to this series of fantasy books by Robert Jordon. I love the the friendship between Morgain and Swan. The descriptions are great as are the action scenes. I give it four stars. Eye Of The World is great too...I'm close to finishing it. :) I can't recommend this series enough.

I just finished Star Trek Terok Nor : Day of the Vipers.  It's a DS9 book that takes place before the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor.  It tells the story of how the Cardassians met the Bajorans and through treachery and the Bajorans themselves, claimed the planet as part of the Cardassian Union.  It was very dark and depressing in the second half but I couldn't put it down and I'll definitely get the second book Night of the Wolves.  There are DS9 references throughout and it takes minor characters from episodes to connect it to the show.  If your a DS9 fan (like I am) and always wished the show expanded more on the Occupation, I highly recommend this book.

I found the Terok Nor trilogy to be very well written and a lot of fun but Day of the Vipers is the best written of the three. Swallow is just such an excellent writer! I can't wait for his next Trek book, which I believe is going to be  the next Star Trek: Titan book to be released this year.

I'm currently reading the Star Trek movie novelization and to tell you the truth I think almost any 14 year old could write a better book. The prose is awful compared to current Star Trek fare. I know Alan Dean Foster had very little time to write the novelization but believe me when I say...it shows!

I actually enjoyed it. The wording is a little different than what was shown onscreen, but I think that this is the first time that I ever picked up an adaptation and I love the extra bits that happen.

Finished the Destiny Trilogy about two days ago. It was some good (and fast) reading. I really like the story of how the Borg came to be. I'm definitely glad I read those books. Those are actually the first Trek novels I've ever read--no wait. . .I did read Star Trek V: The Undiscovered Country way back in the day. Now, which other Star Trek books are as good or even better than Destiny? I know there are hundreds of books out there so which ones are worth reading?

I don't think any other Trek books quite come up to the scope of the Destiny trilogy but there are some really good Trek novels out there. My personal recommendations would be:

Serpent Among The Ruin  by David R. George III - It's a captain Harriman story and really kind of redeems the character from what Generations did to him.

Sarek by A.C. Crispin - The title says it all. A very moving story.

Imzadi - Peter David - Peter David the famous comic book author of Spiderman and The Hulk series tells a fabulous TNG story utilizing the Gaurdian of Forever.

Q-Squared by Peter David - One of the most fun books I have read!

The Crucible Trilogy by David R. George III - Excellent trilogy based on the original series McCoy, Spock and Kirk. The McCoy and Spock books are superb and the Kirk book is the weakes but all still enjoyable.

Immortal Coil by Jeffrey Lang - An excellent and fun Data story.

Left Hand of Destiny pt.s 1 & 2 by Jeffrey Lang - If you like Kilingons and love Martok and Worf then you will absolutely LOVE this series!

Avatar pt. 1 & 2 by S.D. Perry - The first of the DS9 relaunch books that takes the story forward from the final episode of DS9. All the DS9 relaunch books are worth a read imho but this is where you start.

Star Trek: Titan series - I can't name just one novel here because all four titles are just plain good but read them in release order.

This should give you a springboard for good reading and if you need more then give a holler. I have read most everything to come out in the last ten years, and quite a few of the novels even before that.

Mosaic and Pathways are both good Voyager novels.  They are both great at exploring the characters and how they came to be aboard the ship, and what helped to form them into the people we came to know them as.

And they are unique in that they are both considered canon, because they are written by Jeri Taylor.  Need I say more...? ;)
