I thought two hours was too much really.  That plus that countdown thing before made it on all night.  I'm actually thinking the show is now getting the ratings I would have expected from the start.  I never really understood how the show got so popular with the general audience.  It's a complicated, geeky show.  Most of us like it, but I really don't think the general public really cares about it as much anymore.

When I was in High School last year Heroes was strangely the only show I watch that I could talk about with a majority of the people. It seemed to me I could get a decent conversation out of at least 50% of the other students. Most of them not in anyway geeks like myself (lets just say they never caught the Star Trek references).

Really?  During the short season two?  Impressive.  My younger son watched season one but lost interest during season two.

ElfManDan

Most of the students in my high school loved it, I heard a guy once say at the end of a monday school day say something about Peter, can't remember what, but knew he was excited about the upcoming episode.
I don't think they were as uptodate on all the information like I was, (listening to tenth wonders and reading the graphic novels) but I know they really enjoyed it.

It's the only sci-fi type show my wife will actually watch.

Though I very much enjoyed the two episodes, I was very disappointed in the one hour countdown for a few reasons.

Seeing the actors out of character and being hosts was not good for their characters effect.

The whole look at us we're a phenomenon and we're so pretty and young and hip reading lame lines at our premiere party detracted from the edginess of the show.

They should have just stuck to their format of airing the one hour episode, maybe the second on another night in the same week.

I almost ended up turning off the shows alltogether if I had not started viewing almost an hour into the preshow so I could zap all the crap. By the time we finshed with the preshow we where about 35 Min's behind realtime allowing us to zap commercials and keep up the intensity of the show without interruption.

I'm thinking most people did not view it that way.

How did all of you view it? In realtime, delayed, the next day or online?

Rico

TIVO - over two evenings.  No commercials for me!  And I didn't watch that preshow stuff.

ElfManDan

I watched it on Hulu, I don't have a TV to watch it on.

Darth Gaos

It is still on our DVR.  FInding the time can be difficult with 4 kids, what with dinner, homework, chores bedtime etc.  We are waiting for the stars to align correctly to get the chance to watch.

Thanks for the heads up though....I think we will skip the pre-show stuff as well.

I thought the start was OK but I am not jumping out of my seat as when I saw season 1. So far it's like season 2 to me. I also thought that the first hour was a waste of time and that they should have only shown one full hour to start the season and not two. For some reason 24 does that also which I think is a bit much for one night of viewing pleasure.

I am really hoping for the series to get back to the season 1 magic but if it doesn't it will be interesting to see what happens to the ratings.
Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

The two-hour premiere of NBC's top drama "Heroes" was down 25% compared with last year's one-hour opener, taking an expected hit following a creatively middling second season and an extended nine-month hiatus prompted by the writers strike.

The "Heroes" debut (9.9 million viewers, 4.9 preliminary adults 18-49 rating and a 12 share -- video clips here) and matched its lowest original episode rating ever. ("Heroes" was actually down even more, 33%, if you include NBC's heavily protested move last fall to roll its Saturday encore rating into its premiere). Clip show lead-in "Heroes: Countdown to the Premiere" (6 million, 2.6/7)  placed third in the hour.

Hurrah. We start Heroes over here on Wednesday night on BBC2. Now for those Brits that languish here, we all n
know that this is an amazing thing to happen. Usually, when American TV shows air over here, and It happens fairly soon after the Americans have seen it, It's always on Sky. To have a primetime American show air on BBC2 within only a week or two of you guys is unique. I cannot think of a time when the BBC has ever won the rights to show something that is not at least one season behind America. Bloody brilliant.

I liked last night's episode quite a bit.  The stuff with HRG and Sylar was great.  Also loved the bits with Hiro and Ando.  Lots of interesting things going on.  But I thought these villains would stay out longer.  Isn't that the whole point of this season?  Only part that I didn't care for much was the bit with Claire and her mom.  Is Claire claustrophobic?  That fire wasn't enough to pull the air out of that area fast enough and it was far from air tight.  Besides, wouldn't her mom also have trouble breathing as well then?  I thought it was kind of silly.  Anyway, still enjoyed the episode overall.

Yeah, that bit with Claire and her mom also had me scratching my head a bit. Maybe showed HP's so so acting which may be why we where unsold on it. HRG and Sylar is a great idea! All and all very entertaining and I will continue to tune in. Could be another great season like the first.

PS I need that Walkman so I can save my IRA!  ;)

I'm hearing people say the Claire part was just sort of a psychological thing to show that Claire is really just a scared girl right now.  I'm wondering what changes to make her into the bad-ass Claire of the future?

Rico,

The key for me is that the character now cannot "feel" any pain since the attack by Sylar. I'm thinking they will build the reason for the bad-ass Claire of the future because of that. Of course I'm guessing as now the future may have been changed. It's like Janway always said. The past is the future, the future is the past. It gives me a headache! :2cents
