Yes, it was better than the first movie.  I liked it a lot.  You have to remember the Christian symbolism in these movies and the story line.   The old saying, God is never early, nor late, most of the time he shows up right in time.  :)

Aside from all that, great acting in this movie.  They were much less wooden than the last one.  I too liked the battle sequences much better.  I do have to admit though, where is the blood on the swords?  hehehe.

I assume since the characters and the world of Narnia were introduced in the first movie, they could move right in to the meat and potatoes of the new story.

Less exposition and more action.

Thanks for the explanation on Aslan Rick, that makes sense to me. I agree with the lack of blood on the swords, and where was it ;) . I guess for me, LOTR set the expectation high for me in terms of Fantasy battle sequences. I liked that they rolled out some heavy equipment this time.
