Yeah that sucks I had just picked up my 30 gig back in Feb. & I figured that as soon as I did a new one would come out. Anymore I just don't look back once I spend the money I try not to look how the prices change..

I think this may be the beginning of a new line Apple entertainment/PDA products. Fans of the long defunct "Newton" have been asking for another one from Apple for years. Most ipods have always had a calendar and contacts applications - just add a word processor, drawing program, a stylus for handwriting recognition or a mini keyboard and viola.  It is just not being marketed that way right now because the money is in entertainment.

My big concern on this new ipod is "how scratch resistant is that big beautiful screen?"

My 60 gig video ipod takes only seconds to boot up and most of the time it's in stand-by mode, that equals instant on.
After nearly 2 years the battery still holds a good 5 hour charge for music playback and about 2 for movie viewing where the screen never dims. The video out attaches standard RCA jacks your TV for full screen VCR quality playback. Not bad for movies and slideshows with built-in transitions and your pick of audio. I'm not ready to trade up just yet.

Just saw they are dropping the price on the I-phone by a whopping $200.  Some p-o'd early adopters out there for sure.

Actually I think they dropped it $100 per version.  You always pay more to be first.  But this drop does seem a bit quick.

It's a $200 drop, though they're giving out a $100 credit refund to the people who bought at the higher price within the last 14 days.  http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/biztech/09/06/apple.iphone.ap/index.html

Yeah, as soon as I bought my 60gb iPod, the 80gb came out at the same price.  As with any computer, you just have to expect that you're always overpaying compared to the prices in three months.  But it's still frustrating.

Same here.  Though I wouldn't mind a bigger screen, my 60gb Video iPod is perfect in nearly every other way.

Yeah - it is a $200 drop.  I thought they had dropped it $100 per iPhone version.  But it seems they dropped the 4gig iPhone product period and lowered the price of the 8 gig a huge $200 bucks.

I have heard these touch screens are very durable and scratch resistant.  They better be if they have to be touched to use the product.
