Got my Superman Earth One vol. 2 from Amazon today, gonna dig in!

I really enjoyed the 1st one and I'm looking foward to reading this whenever I can get it. I didn't care for the Batman: Earth One book. It wasn't terrible but not anything like the Superman title was.

i've started hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, it's very good so far.

I've always wanted to read those books Ktrek, I might pick that up soon. Never really enjoyed the author though.

Love Pern, I re-read the first trilogy at least once every five or six years.  The other books are a little uneven but are mostly great.  I remember really liking the Masterharper of Pern and that being about the last novel I can say I truly loved in that series.

I remember trying to read the original trilogy when I was younger, but it just hadn't interested me.  I tried several times to read Dragonflight and failed each time.

Then Dragonsdawn came out, and then I was hooked-line and sinker.  I think I read that book once a month for six months.  And I started reading all the other Pern novels after that.  Well, almost everything.  I didn't read Dragondrums yet.

After posting my message last night, I went back and continued reading Sky Dragons, I'm halfway through it now.  I'll probably be finished in another day or so.  Then on to the next book.  I used to have a goal of reading one book a week...I slacked off for the past 5 months.....

Finished Frankenstein and wouldn't you know it it ends as a cliffhanger. So, if I want to get the whole story it looks like I'll have to buy the other four novels in the series. I was hoping that each novel was a self-contained story but nope!

In any case I have something ready to read for the classic science fiction group I joined. They are reading Frederik Pohl's classic novel "Gateway". It's the first in a series of the Heechee saga but as far as I know each story is self-contained. The story switches back and forth every other chapter of the main character and his computer psychoanalyst and his narration of his off world trip to the Gateway as a prospector in hopes of becoming rich. So far I do not really like the main character but the Gateway part of the story is interesting. I hope it gets better. It could use a little less sex and a little more adventure for my taste as well. I hope next months book is better!

Man that "Gateway" book takes me back.  Read that many years ago when I was in the Science Fiction book club.  Still have a hardcover of it around here somewhere.  Cool, old school style SF book.

Gateway is an excellent book.  There are a few books that followed if it captures your fancy.  Pohl is one of my favorite authors.  He did a few collaborations with Jack Williamson that I really enjoyed.

I just picked up an audio book by Brandon Sanderson (the guy who is finishing The Wheel of Time series) called "The Way of Kings". Looking forward to starting it on the drive to and from The Texas Renaissance Festival. :)

Finished Sky Dragons of Pern.  Now reading Poseidon's Arrow by Clive Cussler.  Yeah, I know, but it's shameless fun!

Reading another "classic" novel from 1951 by Edmond Hamilton called City At World's End. Pretty cool story about a Midwestern American town after a super-atomic bomb destroys the world. The power of the bomb distorted time and space and hurled the entire city of 50,000 into the far distant future. The Earth is scorched and the sun is dying and what for them was minutes was in reality millions of years passed. The struggle of the community to survive by relocating to a discovered abandoned domed city is pretty interesting. To think about the logistics of moving that many people and trying to pull together to ensure the future and safety of the only known humans left on Earth. I'm about half way through and am really enjoying it. If anyone is interested in reading it on their ereader it is availble for free online at:

I started listening to this with my husband this weekend. We only got two disks in. Dave liked it so much, he took the audio book and is listening to the rest of it at work... I will have to wait, I guess, until he finishes it before I can listen again. :D  I'm just glad he likes it.

Read Masters of Doom by David Kushner for my last podcast episode. Really great book that goes into great detail about the history and personalities behind id software, makers of games like Commander Keen, Doom and Quake.

That's how my wife is whenever I show interest in fantasy series that she reads...you should have seen her face when I devoured Game of Thrones. Still haven't got my feet wet on Wheel of Time though, very daunting.
