Bryan, what Dan means by "killer feature" is just that: a feature that a killer, like, say Dexter, could use to dispose of victims. :)

Nope. There's a patent issue with the NSA.

I can't wait to get an iPhone 5.  I LOVE MY 4S, and I don't have an upgrade anytime soon.  Amy does, and Catherine does, so most likely they will get one before me.  I just love the new upgrades and I use my iPhone and iPad all day everyday in my business.  If I was super rich, I'd have all the new toys form Apple, but I will be happy with what I have.  They make me smile most days.

Do phone contracts work differently in the States? Over here they are typically 2 years and at the end of which you have the option to upgrade. if you choose not to you can switch to "pay as you go" and go off contract or sign a new contract at a significantly reduced monthly price for the same service and benefits most of the time. That's why I've sat on a 3GS for 3 years because the incremental iPhone updates haven't compelled me to keep paying a hefty monthly fee.

I guess if you don't have that option over there then the justification to upgrade is significantly greater.

I think the most typical phone contract time frame here is 2 years.

...except in Canada where it 3 years...damned phone companies. Who keeps a phone for 3 years these days?!

Bromptonboy

Yes, 2 years here.  I am not up for renewal until 3/2013..  :(

Yeah but what are your options when the contract is up?

Jobydrone

I feel about 100% certain that most if not all carriers will allow users to re-up their contracts in order to purchase these phones at the subsidized price upon release even if they're still under their current contract

Yeah but what are your options when the contract is up?

Basically it saves you on the cost of the phone hardware itself - after your contract is done.  Or you pay a lot more for any phone.

P.S.  My old, feature style phone is almost three years old now and I've completed my contract time almost a year ago.  So, I'd say it's time for a new phone.

Dangelus

So if you keep your existing phone can you get the same service for a reduced price if you renew your contract?

MARKO

So i currently have a white 4s.... I am leaning towards the white iPHONE  5 when i order it tomorrow... what color will you be ordering tomorrow ?

I like white, but wondering why they don't do multiple colors like the nanos though.  I'd buy a red one for the charitable donation aspect if I had the option.

One thing I'm not crazy about is having to use a new dock connector when I get the new phone.  Currently I can switch out the iphone and ipad using the same connector on my iMac.  That wont be the case anymore, I'll have to use up two USB slots, get a splitter, or switch out the cable every time.  PITA.
