I may end up with a Windows Phone. Seriously.

Would also explain why Apple wants to sue Samsung off the market right now...

Absolutely not. That was pure theft not trying to curtail a competitores product.

Yeah, that Samusng Galaxy S3 sure looks like an iPhone to me...(which has been added to the court case now last I heard).

The new iPod lineup is compelling enough. Maybe I'll look at getting one of those.  Overall, the iPhone 5 is unimpressive when stacked against Android's offerings. It barely matches them in most cases. Probably the best area is battery power, but I've heard that the 4S suffers from battery issues so I'm not holding my breath on these stats to be much better.

It was an iterative update for Apple.

Just out of curiosity, how is it unimpressive when compared to Android phones? It seems on par with them to me.

I say unimpressive because we've already seen similar features from Android competitors for months now. Apple likes to hold this big important events to show off new features but there wasn't much new here. As far as the iPhone is concerned.

Biggest new things is iTunes and the new iPod lineup and they've got some nice stuff here. Time will tell on how people like the iTunes program, I can't say for certain.

Hardly surprising considering your position on intellectual propert theft.

I don't think I've ever given my full stance on IP and theft. That said, I look at the S3 and the iPhone 5 and they look substantially different to me. So I'm not sure how Samsung violated Apple's IP. Unless we're talking about software IP and that's a whole different discussion.

For me personally I was looking for that killer feature to tie me back into the Apple ecosystem for another 2 years but it didn't happen. If I was in a contract and due for an upgrade then maybe it would be different.

I'm just an old fogey, I love how with my iphone, ipad, imac, and itunes everything integrates beautifully, I've gotten my podcasts through iTunes now for six+ years and have no desire to change how that happens, and I'm very excited to see how the turn by turn nav system works in the new map app, and to see how much faster everything opens with the new processor, to try out facetime with all my apple friends and relatives that have that front facing camera...pretty excited in general.  Also, the fact that if I chose to, I could upgrade from my 3GS to a 4 for FREE is a pretty enticing offer.  I would be losing 16GB of storage though (Ihave a 32GB 3GS right now) so that's not really an option.

edit to add:  the only problem is my wife wants one too and thinks that just because she pushed out my baby a month ago she deserves to get hers first.  I'll have to wait a little while for mine yet

Out of curiosity, what does this mean exactly? I hear that a lot and it seems very nebulous to me. Wouldn't the killer ap or feature be completly subjective to the user and the use case? As such, it's an impossible expectation to meet it would seem. I think what's more important is to continue to build on an established user experience and expectation with incremental improvements in features.

I was disappointed in one thing today, that I didn't add to my position when the stock traded down for a brief amount of time. Could have made a quick 3+% overnight.

Bryan, what Dan means by "killer feature" is just that: a feature that a killer, like, say Dexter, could use to dispose of victims. :)

I was a bit disappointed that NFC was not included - but perhaps it is just too early for that.

Of course. In my case it didn't happen. For many other people it did.

Yes, more important for Apple. They're running a business and they want you for the long haul. It makes sense to ration features and improvements. As a technology enthusiast I have no brand loyalty and will go with the platform that provides the feature set for me .

Oh well you finally have an iPhone with the correct aspect ratio to look forward to so it isn't all bad.
