Comes off as a bit hokey when you see it in 3D too.  :)
LOL! Not really. It gives foreground depth and isn't as noticeable in 3d as opposed to 2D. In 2D you see it and go "Oh something 3D is happening there". In 3D it doesn't stand out so much.

Good 3D isn't about bringing things out of the screen, it's about bringing the viewer into the setting.

I saw this movie today, and really liked it. I saw it in 3D as well, and thought the 3D was fantastic. Like the others said, it was bright and I thought the visuals were very crisp. I have actually liked all the Transformers movies, but I can see where this one was better then the second one. When Transformers came out in the 80's, I was a bit old by then to get into it, so I don't have a critical eye towards it like others who grew up with it, since I was into Teenagers things at the time.
I really liked that Nimoy did one of the voices, nice throwback to the Cartoon Movie, plus the Trek references were fun.

My one complaint about the movie
I did not like the Nascar Autobots. It took me right out of the movie in those scenes. Every time I saw sequences, I would think to myself, There goes Juan Montoya's car, or Jimmie Johnson's car, or Dale Jr's. Seemed a little forced to me, and trying to make a connection to Nascar that I did not think was necessary. That said, I did like Patrick Dempsey in the movie, and his racing ties were much more subtle.
As someone not a follower of Nascar, I didn't even notice that. They were just transformers to me and the people I saw the movie with.
I guess for me, they just really stuck out quite a bit, and really seemed forced. If I did not follow Autoracing as much as I do, I would probably have the same viewpoint and not really give it a thought. Just found the cars were a bit to identifiable, and would have preferred to see some other exotic street cars, or other types of vehicles.

Well, at least see it in 3D before making that call. So far our little community here that has seen the 3D thought it was good.

I'm a huge F1 fan and LOVED seeing a Ferrari 435 Autobot. :)

Bryan, I wasn't commenting on this movie's use of 3D.  I was commenting on the oft-used technique of poking something at the camera in 3D films.  You have to follow the discussion.  ;)

I didn't mind the stuff coming at you on the screen in 2-D. I didn't find it hokey. I knew it was meant for 3-D but didn't care. I also didn't mind the Nascar Autobots. And I agree with Bryancd about that Ferrari, cool! And Rico, $5 for a movie! Not bad. It's $7 here with 3-D $10, matinee prices of course.
And please tell me this, did Optimus Prime's trailer do that in other movies. If it did I don't remember it.
Rico

The $5.00 price is the matinee, non-3D pricing (before 6pm).  Which I usually try and go to.  Very rare these days for me to go to a night time showing of a film.

Man; this movie just didn't do it for me.  :(

I tried to watch it this evening.

I tried to suspend my disbelief and immerse myself in the movie, but just about every other scene took me out of it.  CG robots flipping around the screen (in slow motion), obligatory butt-crack cam-shot (also in slow-motion), CG cars blowin' crap up (in slow motion), lame lowest common denominator "jokes" and character stereotypes.

Wash, rinse, and repeat (in slow motion).

I really wanted to like this movie, but I ended up walking out during the scene where the NEST troops did their Rocky The Flying Squirrel routine.

I state the following with no sarcasm or exaggeration:  The animated movie from the 80's had way more depth, character development, and HEART than this movie did.

*sigh*   :ohwell

Sorry you didn't like it, Eric. Can't even say your criticism are not valid, I suppose we all have different levels of toleration for crap. :) For what it's worth, the flying squirrel suit scene was real, not CG, which I thought was an impressive stunt.

The animated movie from the 80's was all heart! I won't even compare these new ones to that one due to nostalgia factor.

I'll agree that the movie is 10X better than this.  (Which only reinforces that animated movies seem to be better than live action.....)

Hey!

Just watched Transformers: Dark of the Moon last night through Netflix. It was pretty good. I loved it of course because Leonard Nimoy did the voice of Sentinel Prime. I was glad that I could still tell that it was his voice. I was afraid it would be to electronic sounding. I even thought they made Sentinel Prime look a little like his long angular face. I loved all the little Star Trek bits pertaining to Spock as well. I thought that was really clever.
