I was really hoping for better than 1024 x 768 resolution, but everything else sounds very good.  A tempting gadget.

It was pretty much figured that there wouldn't be a better resolution without fragmenting the App Store market and its generally known that Apple is trying to avoid that as much as possible.  And Retina wasn't likely to be possible because that was a better resolution than the Macbook Pro and PC laptop markets.

I don't think those are the real reasons.  I think Apple always holds a few things back.  I will bet money that iPad 3 increases resolution by a significant amount.  I was just hoping for a bit of a bump this time too.  I'm still on the fence about getting one but a higher resolution would have sealed the deal for me.

I wouldn't take that bet! :) Like I mentioned, next gen and now possibly seeing that in September if some of the rumors prove to be true. With a March 11th date for this model, it's possible...

Well, guess we will find out with iPad 3.0.  Whenever it comes out.  Still, I said I'd wait for Apple to go and fix the "issues" with the original iPad and they did.  Now just have to wait for next friday to roll around.

Anyone got pricing on the 3G data plans?  Are there technical differences in how it functions on 3G with AT&T vs. Verizon?

The only difference is how each Carrier's data is in the area you live.  Pricing is probably the same as the original iPad.  Which I don't know atm.

I'm totaly sold on this, it will be a perfect fit for what I do, from podcasting to recording, I am already hooked.  Now, I have to be patient while I save up the moola.  So awesome.

Welcome to my boat! Where would you like to sail to? Lol

Remember this is a ten inch screen.  There's only so much that high resolution can offer you at that size.  Everything I watch on my iPad looks fantastic.  I believe I read that the new iPad will output to external devices with a an HDMI adapter (sold separately) at 1080p, but there was some question whether this was actually upscaled 720p.

It will be upscaled 720p as it doesn't support 1080p playback on the device. Unless you jailbreak of course! ;)

Just to point out, the best resolution on the tablet market is the Xoom at 1280X800.  The rest are 1024x768 or worse.  (iPad, HP Touch, etc).  The Playbook is 1024x600.  The only reason I can see that the Xoom has a better resolution is that it has a 10.1 inch screen.  The rest are 9.7 and below.

But I point this out to say that your not missing out on anything resolution wise compared to the competition.

And I agree that at that size screen native 1080p is unnecessary. Even smallish HDTVs ( sub 40" ) it can be argued whether native 1080p as opposed to 720p is warranted.

I barely notice the difference between 1080p and 720p.  All I know is that 1080p is a lot harder to stream over the internet that 720p on Youtube and related.  If its HD, its good enough for me ;)
