Here's the teaser trailer, just posted online.  Not exactly genre material, but I figured some here might be fans.  I loved the shorts growing up, and I'm a fan of the Farrely Bros., so I will see this for sure.

I didn't want to like this, I'm a diehard Stooges fan, but I laughed my butt off.

I don't get it. I know who the three stooges  are, not really a fan but i put that down to the fact that i'm English and they were really not that big here. So is this a version of them now or are they meant to be the original actors in modern time??

I think it's a new version raised with nuns so they are new to the tech world and talk.

I'm a VERY big Stooges fan.  Grew up watching them all the time.  I have to say that trailer made even me want to see the movie.  They seem to have the voices and mannerisms down very well.  I'll give it a shot.

I can't help think why? Hey it could be a great film don't get me wrong but why use characters from years ago? Do they not think that an original concept would work? Or are they relying on nostalgia from old fans which to a certain degree would mainly be just in America.

Because Hollywood long ago became bereft of new ideas...or at least became afraid to take chances.  Broadway is the same way these days...regurgitating old TV shows.  I am waiting for Gilligans Island - The Play to come out.

But they sell....and money talks...and people with prim opinions (like me) - walk..

Meds - I'm not quite following your comment?  Do you mean why do a new Stooges movie at all?  Or why did they do it the way the trailer seems to show us??

Bromptonboy

To be clear..I am a big stooges fan (save for Joe Besser or Curly Joe Derito).  As a matter of fact, Philadelphia proudly proclaims Larry Fine as a native son.  ((the Howard brothers - Moe, Jerome (Curly), and Shemp-  came from that lesser known town called Brooklyn))..

Yes why do a new Stoogies film at all? I mean they are not the three stoogies are they? The way I see it is what if they started a film using a tall thin actor and a small large actor and they did a new Laurel and hardy film. I think i need to read up on the three stoogies so i know more about them and their characterisations.

Rico

I guess the same could be said for any "restart" or "reboot" or "re-imagining" of any property.  Such as "Star Trek", "Doctor Who", etc.  Built in name appeal is a HUGE plus when it comes to getting financing.  But the Stooges are a bit sacred to the fans.  This could easily flop.  And flop hard.

They are a marvelous comedy act from the vaudeville days - and I am sad to say that they nicked much of their material from The Marx Brothers, and from Abbot and Costello - but I love them none the less.
They did movie shorts, and didn't make a huge impact until they became syndicated on TV back in the 50's going forward.  I am surprised that they didn't make it to the UK!

I've seen clips and impressions online and these three seem to do a good job. As you say if these are huge icons it's a very risky move. I know I would not be happy with a Laurel and Hardy remake, and as I said above The three stoogies are very much American icons not so much so out side of the country.
