Action Comics #1 = 2.1 Mill.
« on: December 01, 2011, 08:35:58 AM »
I'd be scared to touch it!

A RARE, near-pristine copy of Action Comics No.1, featuring the first appearance of Superman and believed to be a copy once stolen from Hollywood star Nicolas Cage has sold at auction for a record price.
The comic sold for $2,161,000 - the first time a comic has topped $2 million at auction.

The issue was published in 1938 and cost just 10 cents.

Stephen Fishler, the chief of Comicconnect, which sold the comic on behalf of its owner, would not confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that it was Cage's comic, but its sales history matched details of one owned by the Face Off star, the entertainment news website noted.

Cage's comic was stolen from his home in 2000 and only recovered in April when an unidentified man bought the contents of an abandoned Southern California storage locker.

At the time it was reported Cage had received an insurance payment for the comic but expressed an interest in reaching a settlement to regain ownership of it.

Only about 100 copies of Action Comics No.1 are known to remain in existence, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Awesome :) Cage & tv chat show host Jonathan Ross have huge collections. Would love to see them. Rico I know you have an amazing collection you have to do a podcast on your favourite comics or comic story lines.

I sold some comics to Jonathan Ross once when I was a kid helping out a friend who had a stall at a comic book fair. He was a bit of a miserable git actually! Lol
