You know, when you're feeling down or sick, you can put a movie or show on that makes you feel a little better? I have a few, they're pretty ecletic.

1. This is Spinal Tap. Can't ever not laugh at this movie.

2. Empire Strikes Back. No explanation required.

3. Star Trek 3 and 4. I don't know why these particular 2, it could be any Star Trek really, but these 2 do the trick.

4. Silence of the Lambs. I really have no explanation. I just love this movie.

5. Sound of Music. This movie is like taking a shower and getting rid of the funk for me.

6. Blazing Saddles. Again, if you don't laugh at this movie, you're dead.

Just a few of my favorites to get me in a decent mood. Anyone else have a similar way to feel better?

Some Comfort movies for me

1. The Empire Strikes Back - My Favorite Movie, so always captures me when I watch it
2. Back to the Future Trilogy - If I am feeling down about life or things in general, this series always seems to make me forget things and gets me wrapped up in the story
3. Titan AE - When I was single and I would get my heart broken or had a rough date, this was the movie I went to. Not sure why as it really does not have anything to do about dating. I think I liked the intro with Cale and the song Cosmic Castaway playing, make me feel better.
4. Office Space - If I am having a bad run at work, I watch this, makes me feel better about work life in general.
5. U571 - Another favorite of mine, but makes me feel good when I watch it. I actually like to watch a lot of WW2 based war movies, or something like Band of Brothers, as it gives me a strong feeling of brotherhood.
6. Star Trek 4 and 5 - ST 4 Not really one of my favorite movies, but reminds me of some good times when I was in high school as it came out around that time. ST 5 again not the best, but gives me a comfortable feeling as well, probably more to do when it came out and the memories from that time.
7. Kevin Smith Movies - No one in particular, but always sort of make me feel good and forget things well I am watching them.

Movies that will instantly make me feel better? Oh, there are so many. Immediately springing to mind are:

1. Ferris Buellors Day Off (Pretty much any John Hughes will do it. But this just pips The Breakfast Club for me)

2. Star Wars (or Ep 4: A New Hope if you prefer. Any of the original trilogy would do it. Jedi has the most by way of nostalgia for me being the first one I actually saw. But my favourite is the first...)

3. Back To The Future (As above, I love the whole trilogy. But there's something about the first that puts it a cut above for me)

4: Wargames (I love the story and the characters....but there's something about the soundtrack that just really really lifts me

5: The Blues Brothers (Just sheer class...)

6: Animal House (for the same reason as Blues Brother)

7: Stir Crazy (I could have put Blazing Saddles here, but I love both these equally. And Blazing Saddles gets mentioned above so I figured this also deserves a mention)

8: Aliens (Not only is it an awesome movie, but there is so much more depth to this movie than anyone realises at first. eg. No alien attacks unless first provoked by humans....think about that next time you watch it)

9: Superman (This is my childhood. Simple as that)

10: Boys N The Hood (A movie from my teens. I don't care if you listened to "gangster rap" music or not. This movie went beyond it's target audience and became a classic for all. Whether you came from a rich or poor back ground. This movie had to hit home to you the problems the characters were going through just to survive everyday life..)

I could go on. But that's the first ten that sprung to mind. Tomorrow could deliver another totally random ten different to this

Wow!! No Indianna Jones....just realised!!

Yes, I agree with those. They are on my mental list! Just watched my Aliens Bluray a few weeks ago when I was grumpy as heck and it cured it. Raiders would be my Indy fix.

and The Godfather should have been on my list. 1 and 2 marathon. Good for what ails ya.

I'd have to go with Scarface for Gangster movies...But must confess, I've never done any of the Godfather movies yet. As hard as that is to believe...

Interesting ...

Top ten go to movies in no particular order:

1) Queen of the Damned. I just love the music and visuals of this movie.
2) The Long Kiss Goodnight. If I have to explain it, you will never get it.
3) Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Something to enjoy with the wife.
4) Kevin smith's Viewaskew Universe.
5) Hudson Hawk
6) Firefly
7) Aliens Resurrection ... Don't ask me why, I still don't know that one.
8) Losers
9) Star Trek
10) A-Team

I like a lot more and I have a rotation of other films, but these are the ones that I rarely get tired of.

The recital of the Auden poem at Gareth's funeral always gets me teary-eyed in this movie.  Good choice.
Pete

ElfManDan

Anything Whedon makes me feel better. There's a lot of movies in my collection, so usually it's whatever I get an urge to watch or haven't watched in a while.

Though a few of my frequent picks are;
The Great Escape
Star Wars
Lord of the Rings
Back to the Future
Alien and Aliens
Amazing Grace
Fireproof
Wall*E
Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, and Scott Pilgrim

And of course my shows like Chuck and Farscape I have on DVD too. I usually have Doctor Who and Top Gear on the DVR as well.

Absurd.  Stop what you're doing, go home, and watch Godfather 1 & 2.  Seriously.
