Why are most computer voices female?

I thought with "Ms. Siri" and all the "female GPS" devices around, this was an interesting read:

I'd much rather listen to a soothing female voice....especially when the self destruct sequence countdown is activated, just my two cents :)

Well, that's an easy one to answer Rico. Most computer voices are female because as guys, we are used to all the intelligent answers coming from women. So, it's only natural that we, as guys, feel comfortable being told what's what by a female! :)

Oh I don't know. I think if I heard Meds (Hawkeyemeds) tell me the ship was on auto destruct, I'd be soothed! :) You know he DOES have quite a sexy voice...:)

Also, in my experience female voices are easier to understand. When I was a teenager I was in the air cadets (I guess it's kind of like the Civil Air Partol for you Americans). On our summer courses we'd have big parades and we'd have to compete for the position of wing commander. Generally it would go to a female because their voices tended to carry more clearly across the parade ground to the few hundred people participating.
