UK gets Harry Potter studio tour attraction

With Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - the finale of the blockbuster film franchise draws to a close. Warner Bros. announced plans last Friday to create a permanent Potter attraction, opening in the spring 2012 as a museum devoted to the young wizard's world, based on J.K. Rowling's novel series.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, The Making of Harry Potter, will open at Leavesden Studios, transforming the location where the eight films were shot. The three-hour tour allows fans to walk onto the iconic sets, filled with authentic artifacts, props, and costumes on display.

Exhibits include the Great Hall and Dumbledore's office. Built in 2000 for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the 120-foot by 40-foot (36.5 m by 12 m) Great Hall, designed by Oscar-winning designer Stuart Craig features the original dining tables and benches.

Dumbledore's office, built for the film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, features the Sorting Hat and Sword of Gryffindor. Special effects and animatronics from the productions will be incorporated to provide the sense of the films' magic.

The Hogwarts' sets were recreated for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction at the Universal Studios theme park in Orlando, Florida which opened in 2010.

The facility is undergoing a $161 million renovation to encompass 250,000 square feet (23, 225 sq m) of soundstages as well as the largest backlot in Europe. Other films shot at the 200-acre (80 hectare) site include Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes and the sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Tickets will be available starting Oct. 10th at www.wbstudiotour.co.uk or through approved operators.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London
The Making of Harry Potter

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London provides a thrilling new opportunity to explore the magic of the world-renowned Harry Potter film series – the most successful of all time. This unique walking tour takes you behind-the-scenes and showcases a huge array of beautiful sets, costumes and props. It also reveals some closely guarded secrets, including facts about the special effects and breathtaking animatronics that made these films so hugely popular all over the world.

The Studio Tour is located just 20 miles from Central London at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, where all eight of the Harry Potter films were made. It's a wonderful day out for the entire family, and fully accessible to all.

The Studio Tour lasts approximately three hours. Only a small part of it is guided, leaving you plenty of time and flexibility to explore the attraction at your leisure. While some parts of the tour are interactive and give you a fully hands-on experience, some items on display can't be touched because of their unique and precious nature.

Refreshments are available from the Studio Café, which is open from 9.30am until the attraction closes each day. Freshly prepared hot soups and snacks, salads, sandwiches and afternoon treats are available. A full selection of coffees, hot and cold drinks can be purchased at two locations within the Studio Tour.

There's also a shop stocked with a wide range of gifts and souvenirs to remind you of the day you spent immersed in the making of Harry Potter.

I can see this is somewhere my daughter will beg me to take her! Not that I'll be at all reluctant, you understand.

Thanks Kenny, I actually hadn't heard about this.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

And soon we will be planning the meet up! ;)

Geekyfanboy

Tickets go on pre-sale in four days.. I'm hoping by then they'll have a date on when it's opening and from then I can start planning my trip and our meet up.. would love and try and get as many UK folks to join me for the Potter Tour.

Feathers

Let us know the dates. Promising nothing at the moment, I might at least be able to meet you at the airport when you get here even if the tour wasn't on.

Its going to be a long tour so if the early dates sell out dont panic there will be plenty of opportunities.

Well yeah for folks who line over there.. but not for us here in the US.. it's not like fly over to Europe everyday :) I just need to get my travel dates set so I can purchase my ticket before they sell out.

It's nice to have an attraction we don't have to fly to the States for. I'd never had got to the Star Trek Experience but at least there's a chance of my getting to this one.

You know, I like HP but wouldn't consider myself a huge fan but I'm actually excited about doing this, it would be great to meet up with you Kenny and some of the guys who won't be going to Nottingham this year. :)

Meds

Well we can easily make this the 2012 meet up ;) It took a year to organise this years lol

Well, I'm taking the oldest two kids to this tomorrow! (Surprised I haven't mentioned it before now)

A great present from the in-laws, I'm off to Hogwarts etc around lunch time. It's only a 50 minute drive so should be a good day out and not too tiring all around. I'll let you know how we got on and what we thought of the afternoon.

The only fly in the ointment is that my son hasn't yet seen the last two films. He's at least read the last book now so knows where the story goes but I think it would have been better if he'd seen the lot.

He's still excited...
