Decided to use some of my free time to get re-acquainted with one of my favorite all-time shows. I decided to start off with the TV movie "In The Beginning". It's a nice way to get back into the show, and it has old Emperor Londo telling a story, which is a great bonus. He give a great monologue on the futilty of the human fighting against the Minbari that is one of my favorite bits of Londo dialogue ever...with some great music by Christopher Franke....

Neat Trek link, the President of Earth is played by Tricia O'neill, who also played Capt. Rachel Garrett.

OK, now I have to get into the 1st season of B5, which had WAY more ups and downs than TNGs...

Never really got into B5 when it was aired and will shortly be dipping my toe in for the first time, just picked up the first 3 seasons on amazon for £15.24, including postage.

So, first season watched and loved the way the story arced through the season and presumably the series and the character development was superb. The CG, understandably, has not held up well and the costuming has a very early nineties feel to. Really looking forward to season 2, but the random generator selected season 2 of Millennium for my viewing pleasure

Watched season 2 & it was good. Started season 3 last night, thought I'd watch two, maybe three episodes before bed. I watched half the season and if not for tiredness & the fact I had to get up for work, I think I may have watched the lot. This is TV at its best.

I never watched this show - but have always thought about catching up. If they are on Netflix or Amazon, I may start them in order. Should take me a decade to get through.. ;)

B5 is one of Sci-Fi TV's best kept secrets.

Warner Bros. owns the rights and will not release the series for syndication.

But the box sets can be bought cheap. :)

It is very good. It shows up over here periodically (but I have it all on VHS!)

Season 3 done & dusted and I think I can truly say it's one of the best seasons of any TV series I've ever watched. I love the characterizations, the shades of grey, the ambiguity, the way it seems to tell you everything, but still leaves you things to ponder on and things you catch on second viewing. No character feels under utilized and even smaller parts, such as Vir & Lennier, feel fleshed out and I particularly hope we see more of these two in the final two seasons. Even the weakest part of the season, for me, the addict arc, was good I only say weak because the build up, the break, the journey were fine, but for some reason the redemption felt off and slightly rushed to me, though it may not be fully over yet and I may have prejudged it, even it carries over to season 4.

I'd hate to rank the TV series I own that begin with B, they're all so good. Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Blackadder, Brasseye (for those who don't know, a brilliantly funny Mockumentary series by Chris Morris) & Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Nicely put. Like DS9, the series plays like one huge story with a central plot that crosses over all of the seasons. I was lukewarm about it back when the first 2 seasons aired, but the story eventually sucked me in. And the music is great. :)

After season one Warner Brothers stopped auditing the show and let the producer have free reign, Except for their insistence on inserting a young good looking fighter jock into season 2 of the story.

For those of you who have seen the show - you know what happened to him, tsk tsk :)

They gave Straczynski free reign? Pretty cool that they let the creative team do their thing. Other networks would do well to follow that model. :) And speaking of fighter-jocks; the starfurry remains one of my favorite space-fighter designs. I dig the fact that it looks cool AND feels like a plausible real-world zero-G fighter design.

I always enjoyed the story that NASA liked the design so much that they asked to use the name for their concept of little 'worker' type ships for use with the ISS.

Yeah, love the Starfury, all the human ships in this show are really great. They are all very "real life" and seem like something we'd come up with based on current tech.
