Without Old Landru
Parody of U2's with or without you
By Rick Moyer

See the brown robes really thick
See the hollow big long sticks
And they serve Landru

Sulu underneath his charm
The population he does harm
And they serve, Landru

It's all about Landru
It's all about Landru

The Red hour comes and then they all
Lose control for Festival
And They serve Landru

It's all about Landru
It's all about Landru
They can't live
without Old Landru

Are you part of the body
Are you part of the body
Are you part
Are you part
Are you part of the body

Kirk he tries
And tricks Landru with his mind
Sparks they all fly
Nothing left of him...

And they blew Landru away
And they blew Landru away
And they blew
And they blew
And they blew Landru away

Was all about Landru
Was all about Landru
Beta Three without Ol Landru
Without old Landru

Woooo ooooooooooooo X3

It's all about Landru
It's all about Landru
They can't live
without Old Landru

Rico,

Just finished listening to the podcast, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was great to revisit this episode after so long. Like you, I tended to dismiss this one because it seemed a little silly to me, especially the "Your daddy can put them up, can he?" guy. Now, I want to revisit the episode.

Some of the elements brought out are classic TOS. Kirk outsmarting the computer is always one that puts a smile on my face. The concept of "Colossus (the Forbin Project)" — computer as father figure — machines that manage "perfect societies" is another recurring TOS story element.

You also brought up how McCoy does crazy really well, which gave me a good laugh. That's true. This episode and "City on the Edge of Forever" showcase that. It's like the genie let out of the bottle. McCoy's big emotions can easily be amplified into nutty (or nervous breakdown). I hope they pick up on that in the next Star Trek movie, or the next one. Karl Urban kind of played half-crazy in the shuttlecraft scene with Chris Pine. Or was that just anger? Oh wait, he was playing recently divorced. I can relate to that.

Yep, McCoy does crazy and cranky very well.  And good catch about Urban in the shuttle scene in the 2009 film.  Great little nod to classic Bones attitude.

Hopefully, Urban will flesh out the character. McCoy was more than just a cranky complainer. He could exude that smooth Southern charm as well. He also made a great counselor or father confessor. That's a key element to the Kirk/McCoy relationship.
