If you look at the product cycle so far, this isn't surprising, we can now observe a pattern forming:

original -> 3G -> 3GS -> 4 -> 4S

Being that most people in the US are on 2 year contracts, I think it's reasonable to have a "major" upgrade every two years and an "intermediate" upgrade every other year.

Yeah, i do like that too.  Keeps your customers happy while not making it seem like they are losing out.

I've been happy with my 4 so far so I'm looking forward to the 5.  Be interesting to see what they do with it.

The biggest thing is I'm just happy Sprint is aboard now.  Makes it very tempting for me to get one.  I'm not sold on the voice command stuff.  It's very hard to do and much of the time you can do things faster without it.  Unless you're occupied by driving or something.  Anyway, no real surprises at all today.

Agreed on the Sprint thing.  I'm hoping Sprint entering the scene will force ATT to back down on their pricing, but that's probably wishful thinking :(.

Looks as well that British people travelling to the US will have better roaming as well. O2 my contracter for my phone emailed me earlier with a sign up for news letter and as my contract ended the other day i am in a prime position to move up.

It's the first time I've come across a combined GSM/CDMA phone. Do others exist?

I'm personally not so fussed about the hardware but the facility to text others with iDevices without using up my network allowance (or paying international texting rates) seems quite attractive. Watch out TSF members with iPhones/iPads, text messages incoming!

What I don't understand is how it knows who's got an iPhone to send text messages using the 'Apple method' rather than via the network. I guess it's the same technology that makes Facetime work (which I've still never tried) and Apple have us all on file somewhere.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

AH, OK. I hadn't picked up on that. It's a good move (or would be if I ever went anywhere with a CDMA network!)

Not disappointed at all with the 4s......dual-core processor, much better graphics, more powerful camera, longer battery life, 4G speeds, and Siri voice recognition. So it doesn't say iPHONE 5 on it i'll be ordering one on friday, i am an Apple fanboy since the early 90's and not a new switcher. Having said that this will be my first iPHONE  i put off buying one in the past because i have been with Verizon since 96 and i didn't wanna switch to AT&T . But i am sick of the buggy android operating system my droid x2 (on my second replacement) keeps re-booting then won't turn on randomly my wife has the same phone and it does the same thing. Tried factory re-set and everything else but the problems still exists..... the only thing i will miss on the android is the Navigation which is amazing and has helped me out allot. Anyone else buying a 4s

Sprint is officially offering unlimited data on the iPhone - at least for now.

Computerworld - Sprint confirmed that it will offer unlimited data plans for the iPhone 4S starting Oct. 14, but it will also sell the iPhone 4 for $99.99 with the iOS 5 upgrade starting today.

The fact Sprint is selling the iPhone 4, and with the latest update of iOS software, came as a shock to many, but also at the lower price of $99.99 announced earlier by Apple.

Many assumed that Sprint would only sell the new iPhone 4S when Verizon Wireless and AT&T also put that device on sale Oct. 14.

"This is the first official announcement of which iPhone devices we will sell," a Sprint spokeswoman said today.....

Well i can attest that facetime is a great tool as i have used to chat with people, they hook up to you via your email similar to heytell. Not tried the testing app yet on my ipad though so cannot comment on that. Meds when u haggle with o2, swot up on what three are offering, they are the biggest competitor to your contract, it gives u a good bargaining chip.

LOL! Over 1 million customers ordered the new iPhone 4S in the first 24 hours, beating the prvious record of 600K  one day sales of the iPhone 4. Yeah, I would call this launch a success.
