As usual it's all rumours. My bet is Feb 2012. Another rumour says that Apple will release a "high rez" iPad 2 alongside the current iPad 2. Another one says September along with new iPhones.

Rumors, but my best guess is next year about Feb-March.  The iPad HD rumor is, imo, fake.  The reasoning behind it is that Apple wants to sell it to Photo/Video editors and release an iPad version of their Final Cut Pro.  But if anything, the iPad has always been sold as a general-consumer product that anyone can use.  Also based on what I've heard about the Final Cut Pro X is that it is aimed more at general consumers rather than the "high-end" editors. 

So yeah, just saying.

I got the snap cover for the iPad 2 as well as a Belkin plastic protection case for the back. Makes it nice and grippy. I really like the flip cover.

The problem with those flip covers and snapping something else on the back is I still feel the iPad is vulnerable to damage if you take it out anywhere.  I want more protection than those offer.  They are ok for around the house, but I want more of a folio type of cover/case for mine.

It has the features of the smart cover (including the sleep/wake magnets), but it also protects the entire back.  The iPad slides in, very snugly, to the case and it completely covered.  All of the ports line up for me (some reviews claim otherwise), and I've very very pleased with it so far.  Even better - it's less expensive than just the smart cover alone, by about $15! 

It is very thin, so it's not going to protect against hard bangs or drops, but I think it's perfectly fine for most daily transportation.  When I do travel with my iPad2, I play to slide the whole thing (with the cover on) into my netbook sleeve (obviously leaving the netbook at home) for some added protection and padding during the trip.  A standard sleeve for a 10-inch netbook does the trick for me.

Yeah I have a smart cover and one of those 3M clingy films to protect against scratches. We slip it into our 13" notebook sleeve for right now but I'll probably be picking up a 10" for travel.
