August 31, 2010

Jonathan Liebesman (upcoming Battle: Los Angeles) has signed a deal to direct the Clash of the Titans sequel for Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary. Liebesman will shoot the sequel in 3D instead of having it added during post-production.

The first film, made for about $125 million, has earned $491.9 million worldwide.

Greg Berlanti (Green Lantern), Dan Mazeau (The Flash, Jonny Quest) and David Leslie Johnson, writer of next year's Red Riding Hood worked together on the treatment, with Mazeau and Johnson now writing the script.

I finally added the new Clash of the Titans to my Netflix queue. I was kinda turned off by it from the previews. I was a big fan of the original and was afraid it would have no hope of living up to it. I guess that's still possible but time to move on :)
Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

Wow I didn't know the remake did that well.  I thought it was pretty dumb.  The original was so much better.  I'm actually interested how a new, all original script will look, they mined pretty much everything from the classic movie.

I thought the the remake was a lot of fun, I love the first one as I grew up with it.. but that doesn't make me like the new one any less.. They are two separate movies in my mind based on the same story.

I'm looking forward to part two...

I just watched it on Blu Ray a few nights ago.  It wasn't  horrible.  I kind of like it.  Amy and I review it on the next Take Him With You.

I have been and always will be, your friend.

I think a great movie documentary subject would be to see if anyone could find a movie that Kenny DOESN'T like!  :biggrin

Saw this on MSN today, thought it was pretty interesting...

I've seen maybe half or so on that list.  Most I didn't think were really that bad.  The remake of "Clash" for me was ok, but I still prefer the first one.

"Titans" Sequel To Be Better Says Worthington
By Garth Franklin Sunday December 19th 2010 11:45AM

Along with that smile, Sam Worthington's other most admirable trait is his blunt honesty. You thought the "Clash of the Titans" remake wasn't up to scratch and neither was his performance in it? Seems he agrees with you.

Speaking from the set of "Man on a Ledge", Worthington tells Movieline that one of the big reasons for doing the planned "Wrath of the Titans" sequel is that "I just think we can improve on it. I think the first one, we kind of let down some people. And yeah, I totally agree. The only point of doing a sequel is either the audience demands it or you believe you can better the first one. What we're setting out to do with this one -- the writers and the director and myself -- is improve."

He's also humble about his own work in the film - "I think I can act fcking better, to be honest ... Just take all the notes from people that I have been reading about on the 'net and give them a movie they fcking want. This one I want to kind of try to satisfy a lot more people. I've always said you make movies for an audience, that's who you make movies for. If the audience is speaking, it's like the old gladiator thing, they give us the thumbs up/thumbs down, you want to stay alive in that coliseum as long as you can."

It seems lately that sequels are being made for crappy movies. What gives? The Clash remake was garbage. It was sooo flat. Once again it was a SFX movie and not a story / character driven plot. Give me Dark City or Gattaca over SFX laden movies with actors that are all perfect looking.
