I am not sure if you saw but MTV had an interview with Ridley Scott in which he said they are in fact doing two pre-quels for Alien. One of the movies will explain the Jockey.

Sounds interesting......
Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.
