You know I"m finding that I don't care about this new spiderman.. still can't believe they are rebooting this series already.

Rico

I've read Spider-Man comics since late high school.  He is by far, my favorite super-hero.  Over the years I've gotten used to revamps, reboots, alternate versions of Spidey and I try to enjoy each new version as best I can.  Some are better than others, but I find something fun in each new take.

I'm sure I'll see it when it comes out and get excited when I start to see trailers.. but right now it's doing nothing for me.

I love everything about Spiderman as well.  Like Rico I've been a failthful fan ever since I was a little kid.  But if there's any character in comics that has reached market saturation more than good ol Spidey, I'd like to see it.  I mean for real, there's new (bad) video games every year, multiple comics titles including significant roles in two ongoing Avengers books (Spidey an Avenger still doesn't seem right to me), going on four movies, god knows how many TV cartoons, novels, a broadway show that is injuring performers and audience members left and right, toys, clothes, board games, happy meals...god did I miss anything?  Give the poor kid a break already.  You can tell the strength of the character though that he is able to survive and remain interesting in spite of the over-abundance of content we've gotten over the years.

That being said I'll be seeing this movie for certain.

Definitely all true Joby.  As a tangent, Marvel does kind of annoy me with multiple titles of comics.  I'm ok with one "Ultimate Spidey" since that's him young, in high school, etc.  But the multiple other Spidey books plus Avengers (don't get me going on how annoyed I am with what they have done to the Avengers titles the last couple of years), is overboard.  DC is doing the same thing with Batman right now too.  I was actually talking to a comic book shop owner the other day about it.  And at $2.99 to 3.99 a pop for a comic - I mean do kids even read these things anymore??  Anyway, at least in the movies we have only really had three so far with one set of actors.

Indeed, when I was a kid reading comics there was Amazing and Peter Parker Spectacular, and those two were more than enough.  It started to jump the shark for me when they introduced the Web of Spiderman and Todd McFarlane's Spiderman (though the latter was an awesome book).  I'm rarely in comic shops these days except once every few months to catch up on Walking Dead, but when I'm in one I never see kids, just overgrown kids like me.

Actually I'd be interested on your take on this...I kind of liked the newest incarnation of the Avengers book.  Bendis is a good writer and the time travelling Kang adventure was pretty cool I thought.  I haven't read or plan to read the (New) New Avengers, Secret Avengers, or Avengers Academy and find it completely ridiculous that they are flooding the market with these books.  How did Steve Rogers come back to life anyway, and is he the new Nick Fury or something?  Bucky is still Captain America it seems...  I thought Bucky was a villian anyway?  Man it's impossible to keep up with Marvel Universe.

My simple answer/problem is too many Avengers books.  Back in the day I used to read one Spidey book, one Avengers book, one X-Men book, etc.  And now - well it just irks me.  It dilutes everything.  So you know what I do?  I stop reading most of them.  I dropped the Avengers kind of after the whole superhero registration fallout and Cap. got shot.  Anyway, been trying to pick just one to start reading again.

Geekyfanboy

Here's the new Spiderman.. what do you think?

Rico

Not bad.  A bit hard to tell since it's such a dark shot.  Like to see the upper back spider graphic too.  Andrew Garfield seems to fit the suit well.  Lean guy and fits the character and suit just right.

ElfManDan

I'm liking the look of that suit. The texture and general look of it just seems really well done.

I get what you're saying, but I'm going to disagree. Aside from a few characters, the Avengers books focus on completely different groups of characters and they have not spent any time together in the stories. If you like Avengers book A, you can read it without needing to read any other books. Each book has a different team and feel and it works well. I don't like the current Avengers title, but I love the stuff that the New Avengers and Avengers Academy are doing. It's also not the first time that we've seen multiple Avengers groups.

I think that when you have hundreds of characters and millions of fans that prefer certain characters, you do a disservice to a lot of fans if you have only one book. Either you water down the screen time of the huge cast or you ignore others.

As for the X-men, that's pretty much the same there too. It all comes down to having a lot of characters and giving the fans a chance to see them in action. For the most part, you don't need to read everything, but the companies are happy when you do.

Oh and I really like that new suit.

Steve was never "killed" he was displaced in time and forced to relive a lot of the bad times by the Skull to soften up his mind so the Skull could steal his body. Buck was bad then Cap used the cosmic cube to give him back his memories. When Cap "died" Bucky took over. When Asgard fell Steve became the New Nick Fury and kept Bucky on as Cap.

X (on the Avengers) -

Not meaning to diverge, but I disagree on many of your points.  Talk to some comic shop owners and ask them about the current line of Avenger books.  I've read comics for over 30 plus years steadily, and I'm a big Marvel fan.  The point of having one Avengers book is these are the Avengers - this is the big leagues.  Over the years they altered their team from time to time and that brings in new characters.  Multiple titles dilutes the line.  At least that's my view.  I'd much rather see some new and interesting titles rather than 5 Avengers books out there.

P.S.  Go Spidey!   :spidey

The suit looks pretty neat, damn his thin frame ;)
