CBS Announces New High-end Star Trek Collectibles
Posted by T'Bonz - 16/11/09 at 01:11 pm

Fans wanting to purchase Star Trek collectibles are in luck with CBS's announcement of a select line of new high-end collectible items.

The products, based upon the Star Trek television shows and movies, including Star Trek XI, will include ship replicas, prop replicas, uniform replicas, resin statues of the characters and more. The new lines come from agreements with Quantum Mechanix (QMx), Hollywood Collectibles Group, eFX Inc. and ANOVOS Productions.

"Star Trek fans continue to be the ultimate collectors within the science-fiction community," said Liz Kalodner, Executive Vice President and General Manager of CBS Consumer Products. "These new lines will feature an eclectic mix of niche collectibles that will satisfy any Star Trek enthusiast."

Quantum Mechanix (QMx) will offer several lines of collectibles based on Star Trek XI. QMx unveiled its 34-inch Artisan U.S.S. EnterpriseTM at Comic-Con 2009 in San Diego this past summer and has already started work on a large-scale version of the U.S.S. Kelvin with plans for collector-scale versions of both ships. QMx has also produced two premium collectibles that will be bundled with the Blu-ray DVD version of Star Trek XI this fall: a screen-accurate set of four Starfleet Division badges cast in metal and an 8.5-inch all-metal Enterprise replica exclusively for Amazon.com. Finally for those fans clamoring for the most popular weapon in the fleet, QMx is developing a complete line of screen-accurate prop replicas, including the Starfleet phaser.

Hollywood Collectibles will introduce 12″ and 18″ versions of the entire Star Trek universe, from Kirk and Picard from the original series and Star Trek: The Next Generation, to Archer from Star Trek: Enterprise. The first pieces will be unveiled soon ranging from $149.95 to $249.95 and available through select distributors including Diamond Distribution.

eFX Inc. will also introduce new prop replicas based on the classic Star Trek films and TV series, starting off with the Mark IX Tricorder as reported by TrekToday in September. The Mark IX Tricorder is based on the one seen in Star Trek: First Contact, and the replica will be signed by Brent Spiner (Data.)

Finally, in 2010, ANOVOS Productions will debut the Star Trek Movie (2009) Collection featuring high-end male and female full uniform replicas starting off with the science officer's complete uniform. ANOVOS Productions will also offer Star Trek uniform replicas available for the classic Star Trek movies and television series. These high-end uniform replicas will feature original or close-to-original fabrics, techniques and pattern analysis. Pricing for the 2009 Movie Collection is expected to range from $499.95 to $1099.95.

The collectibles will be available at the four online sites as well as in comic, collector and specialty stores nationwide.

That's nice stuff. I hope the stuff is like Master Replica quality.
Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

I just got my eFX Inc. Tricorder. It is PERFECT. I will post some photos.

Send in an audio review for the podcast too!  ;)

They've been talking about the new eFX Tricorder over on the Replica Prop Forum.  I'm still tempted to get one even though I have the Master Replicas version, which is very similar.  Here's a nice video (not by me) of an RPF member comparing the two versions.

I need to post pics of mine. It's VERY solid. The sounds are awesome on it.

The packaging it came in was also VERY nice. Much nicer than Master Replica used to do.

Do you own the MR version?  They are very similar.  Both use a metal shell which makes the weight nice.  I've seen a lot of pics over on the prop forum and it looks like eFX did a nice job.  I'd like to see what they would do with a new, 'ground-up' Trek prop.

Yeah, I have seen both but only own the new one. I was more talking the packaging and presentation compared to Master.

The only reported trouble I'm hearing about the eFX version is some missaligned hinges making the two parts not quite square.  But I think that's only a few of them.  It's really a great item - from either company.

The one issue I see is that the back plate that screws on is a bit mis-aligned. Not bad at all but if you are anal like me, you will notice.
