Can't believe we don't have a thread for this movie already..

I loved the original way back when and this new re-make looks pretty sweet.

Click on the link for some posters of the new movie.

Here are some more pictures I found online.. not much out there.

This remake looks pretty good.  I'll definitely go see it, but I'm still a fan of the classic movie and a long time Ray Harryhausen fan.

I look forward to seeing this - and will try to reserve judgement.  I was also a big fan of the earlier movie - and not always a fan of 'Extreme' - make overs!  The original had a cast that is hard to beat...Olivier, Meredith to name a few.

I wonder what the Kraken will look like?

Looks like a blast!  And it's out at the end of March, 2010.  Not too far away.

I loved the original, it was an epic tour de force of cool effects and great story. I wasn't sure what I expect from a remake, but this looks just ok so far. It seems that genre movies like this should make an effort, IMO, to follow more the Peter Jackson model of EPIC vs. the more contrived, fast paced action intercut with slow motion jumping scenes with a rock soundtrack which recent contemporary action movies default to. The trailer makes it look like GI Joe with swords and loin cloths. Why do we need such frenetic pacing and editing? Why is in your face taking the place of great story telling?

Bromptonboy

I am with you on that Bryan - I was afraid this would turn into another '300'..an adrenaline filled treatment.  I am trying to be optimistic about this one....and hoping it treats this beloved myth with dignity.

Don't get me wrong, I like action films...but I also like thoughtful more restrained movies as well.

Well, films are paced faster these days.  Whether you enjoy that or not, it's just kind of the way it is.  I would keep in mind this is just a very short teaser trailer so they are going toss a lot at you very quickly.  I loved the original film too, but I'm up for seeing another take on it.

See, now I liked 300 as I knew nothing of the graphic novel and thought it was so interesting visually. That film seemed very original to me and fresh. That movie felt surreal and I think that was the point. LOTR didn't feel surreal, it felt REAL. It had so much weight to it, the action was so visceral, the quiet times so beatiful.
I think Rico's right, I just don't like the fast and furious film making style at all. It feels like a visual scam, where I am cheated from a good movie and forced to just be "blown away" scene after scene. All of these films are starting to just blur together. Shame we can't get better stuff. STAR TREK walked a fine line on this issue but still managed to give the audience enough of a break to enjoy an actual story.

Bromptonboy

I had never read the graphic novel for 300 - but I was always filled with respect for the real 300 in History (I would conveniently forget the terrible things the Spartans did....).  My thoughts were on the debt that Western Civilization owes to Leonidas and his soldiers.  Imagine how things could be different if they never held that pass?

Still, I will keep my mind open - and I am sure I will enjoy the new film.

Cool Looking Trailer, but I am a little worried that it is being released in March, and maybe it might be a step or two below a Blockbuster we see in the Summer. I recall being excited about 10,000 BC from a few years ago. It was released in March, and I was sort of let down by that Movie. But I most certainly will be seeing this one opening weekend.

Geekyfanboy

I think they are releasing it in March and ahead of the Summer movies because there are a bunch of really big summer movies and this way it will be a blockbuster on it's own.
