Forget Ewoks, I want to find Risa!

I vote for the Orion colonies!  ;)

But seriously, there has been some discussion on other forums I visit lately about NASA and various space programs and their funding.  The bottom line for me always on this is it is well worth the small amount of funding these programs get.  There are tremendous technological advancements that have to be made to do things like send men to the moon or even just in optics & robotics while searching for life in space.  Not to mention just man's thirst for knowledge and reaching beyond his own small planet.  Money very well spent.

Anyone for Tarsis 4?   OMGosh, I can't believe I remembered that.

In theory, since the planet does not rotate, somewhere between the hot and cold sides there should be a narrow band of useful land. By useful I mean possible to land a ship or establish an underground base. The only reasons I can think of to do such an expensive thing would be for mining and research.

True, but being so close to it's star, the radiation would be beyond deadly. Not sure you could ever get down there.

A very good point, I hadn't taken radiation into consideration. I guess I would hope that since we had the whereiwithall to get there in the first place, we would have the radiation problem solved as well. If nothing else, perhaps a base staffed with robots(you knew I was gonna go there;)) could do the actual work on the surface while the human staff controlled the operation from a safe distance? I guess there would have to be something extremely valuable on the planet to go to all the trouble, mabey dilithium chrystals. Any way it's fun to think about.:)
