Profile

Name: Tolok
Rank: Lieutenant Commander
Position: Chief Engineer

Personal Information

Age: 58
Place Of Birth: New Vulcan
Gender: Male
Species Of Origin: Vulcan
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 140
Skin Tone: Tanned
Telepathic and Empathic Status: Full Vulcan telepath
Body: Lean
Face: Angular
Marital Status: Married
Children: One son

Habits: Likes to work on the bridge at the end of his shift to avoid taking work back to his quarters.

Quarters: Tidy and ordered. Family mementos are on display but confined to a specific area. Tolok believes in keeping his work and living quarters separated, the better to achieve an appropriate mental balance. Thus, there are no technical projects or schematics being worked on in his quarters.

Likes: Models, children, problem solving.

Dislikes: Lateness, disorder, Romulans and cats.

Ambitions and Goals: To ensure the safety and security of the Vulcan people and their homeworld, New Vulcan. Tolok sees his best contribution towards this goal as his service in Starfleet with the logical conclusion of this service being his own captaincy - for which he is prepared to wait.

In an 'ideal world' he would see a larger Vulcan defence fleet initiated, dedicated to planetary defence of Vulcan and its colonies but without that, Starfleet is the next best thing. While he might give his life in the defence of other planets and peoples, he is assured that others from those planets are doing the same for Vulcans.

(The sacrifice and loss of the Tiberius to the Lucas virus epitomises what he believes in and went a long way to ensuring his return to Starfleet after his leave.)

Temperament: Even handed and logical. Tolok appears to have completely mastered the discipline of kolinahr.

Hobbies: Model-making to intricate levels of detail at very small scales. It is a logical pastime for an engineer as it assists in the development of both the manual dexterity and mental discipline required for problem solving at the macro as well as the micro level.

Family

Mother: T'Larr, teacher.
Father: Slel, retired Starfleet Commander
Siblings: None

History

2329 Tolok born on New Vulcan to full Vulcan parents Slel and T'Larr and grows up in a benevolent matriarchy of his mother and grandmother due to his fathers regular periods of absence due to Starfleet service. Such service is given great importance by the family as ensuring the defence of the Vulcan race.

2348 Tolok enters Vulcan Science Academy to study power generation physics

2352 Graduates with an advanced degree in power systems

2354 Enters Starfleet at 25 years old.

2358 Ensign Tolok graduates, posted to Utopia Plenetia shipyards to assist in the design of EPS systems

2363 Tolok promoted to Lt (j.g) and transferred to Starbase 173 construction programme with power generation speciality.

2365 On completion of Starbase 173, Tolok takes a year and a half leave of absence on New Vulcan for 'Personal Reasons'. His son, Tavek, is born during this time.

2366 Tolok resumes his career, expressing an interest in starship service rather than construction. Posted back to Starbase 173 as Engineering Officer.

2368 Tolok transferred to Nebula class U.S.S. Phoenix

2370 Promoted to full Lieutenant

2372 Transferred to U.S.S. Intrepid under Commander Donald Kaplan

2375 Tolok promoted to Lieutenant Commander post Dominion war and transferred off the Intrepid before it's deployed to the neutral zone. Made chief engineer on U.S.S. Prekofiev.

2379 Following a five year term, Tolok resigns as Prekofiev Chief Engineer, takes a leave of absence from Starfleet and returns to New Vulcan to undergo Kolinahr. His original intent had been to resign from the fleet but he was talked out of it by his family.

2386 Having achieved Kolinahr after a seven year period of study, Tolok turns down a new starfleet posting, transferring to the 'reserve' list, and spends a year at home on New Vulcan with his family.

2387 Recalled to active service, Tolok joins U.S.S. Arabella as Chief Engineer.

Tolok stepped from the door of the house onto the surface of New Vulcan, the hem of his robes stirring up dust from the valley floor. Pausing just beyond the threshold, he turned and waited for his wife and son to join him before moving out fully into the sunshine.

"It is time?", T'Laun's question was even and measured as she moved to stand beside him. Only those who knew her very well could have detected the slight irregularity in her vocal tones. It was not logical and Tolok would never offend her by saying so, but the slight lapse in her control on such occasions was a part of her character he found...pleasing.

"It is time, my wife.", the engineer bowed his head as he spoke.

Stepping forward to stand in front of both of them, Tavek raised his hand to this father in formal salute. "Live long and prosper, Father. I wish you success in your mission." The formal intonation would have been out of place anywhere else.

"Live ling and prosper, Tavek." Tolok intoned, returned the salute. "I trust you will soon make your choice regarding attendance at the Academy. Know that I support whatever path you choose to walk. Your logic in these matters has always proven most adequate."

As his son inclined his head and took a step back, Tolok turned back to T'Laun, silently raising two fingers to his mate. As she reciprocated, their fingers caressed and both Vulcans stood motionless, the action and the bond they shared speaking volumes in terms that neither would ever have been able to express aloud.

It was T'Laun who finally broke the contact, silently taking a step backward, watching as her husband struck the emblem attached to the front of his robes.

"Tolok to Arabella. One to transport."

"Acknowledged, Lieutenant Commander.", the response was crisp and businesslike.

Looking at his family, Tolok raised his right hand again. "Peace and long life".

"Live long and prosper." both wife and son replied.

The transporter took him, his family seeming to dissolve before him, replaced by the clean and functional transporter room of the Intrepid II class U.S.S. Arabella.

Nodding at the technician in the control bay, Tolok stepped down from the dais and strode to the door.

Tolok surveyed his quarters, ordered now that his belongings had all been stowed away. His model of the U.S.S. Prokifiev stood to one side of the desk, almost complete for the last seven years but stored against the day he returned to his Starfleet career. Next to it sat his neatly folded gold duty uniform with its three rank pips and the responsibility they carried.

It had been seven years since he'd last worn the uniform of the fleet and until this moment he'd not been sure that he would ever need to don it again. With the current unsteady state of the universe, however, he had already decided that it was appropriate to return to duty and do what he could to aid in maintaining the stability of the Federation. It was only logical that those with a suitable skill-set make use of their abilities in ensuring the safety and security of others.

There was much to do before the Arabella would be ready for deep space, but with the engineering crew of the shipyard, supported by those of her own crew who were now beginning to report aboard, the task was not impossible. All it needed was a suitably ordered and organised chief engineer.

Unfastening his robes, Tolok moved toward his uniform and quietly began to change.
