Just got the latest video cast up.  A very big file again (almost 500 meg).  One day I will find a better way to encode these and keep the quality up, but make the files smaller.  Anyway, this show covers the recent Motor City Comic Con that I went to last weekend.  I share some footage from it and some comments on the show.  Plus I talk about some other news and do a review of a new prop.  Hope you all enjoy the show!

Hey Rico, I don't know if this helps, but itunes can convert it to a smaller size.

I did try to use that, and the file actually got a tiny bit bigger.  It's already in an iPod (mp4) format when I upload it anyway.  But I'll keep trying tests and stuff for future shows.

Great VidCast Rico. It does seem like Cons look pretty much the same where ever you go, with the same floor setups, similar guests, and all the costumers.

The Autograph thing is a real tricky one. Pretty much everyone charges these days, but some much more then others. I have never been big into collecting autographs, but the few I have gotten, it was more the experience of meeting the celebrity then the actual Autograph that was important. Celebs like Carrie Fisher I probably would not have bothered, as it sounded like a person pays quite a bit, just to be close well she signed a photo, just doesn't seem to be worth it to me. She is popular, so she might have to do that to meet everyones needs, but unless you are an autograph collector, you miss out on the experience that you get with some of the other Celebs when getting an Autograph.

Rico

I just wished more of them would have done some kind of talk.  I'm ok with the autograph thing, but if that isn't your bag or you don't have the cash then the whole con is kind of a waste.  At least that's what they have turned this one into.

Fun vid cast, I really enjoyed it. Gil Gerrard seem's like a bit of a blow hard! The celebs at the tables all seemed very engaged with the fans, that was cool to see. Did you go over and talk to them?

Darrell

The last con I went to was prolly around 1985.  The best experience I've ever had with a celebrity was 1981 or so.  The guest was George Takei.  He did a talk, put on a little skit with a local Trek fan club in an actual Trek costume, then walked around with the fans in the crowd.  He'd pose for pictures and sign stuff for free.  He was super nice & even remembered my name seeing me again later.  The way things are now, I will never go to another con.  Cuz they are just that now, a con.

Rico

There are still some good points to cons - don't get me wrong.  However, given the current state of the economy (and especially here in Michigan), I really think these celebs should rethink the amounts they charge for a quick Sharpie signature.

How much were they charging Rico?

Most were $20 an autograph.  Carrie Fisher was $40.

we might be in the wrong business. :)  I wish our autographs were worth that much! :)

Worth is relative.  I didn't buy any this time.  Partly due to money, but mainly because I'm kind of getting tired of it.

Loved the Vidcast Rico. It reminded me of some of the conventions Alison & I used to attend. A friend of ours  in Texas used to co-organise autograph conventions for several years with a mainly "space" theme . He would have Apollo astronauts and Russian cosmonauts taking part as well as stars from TV and cinema. They were great fun as as we were able to get "up close and personal" with some of the guests and we also got to see lots of the USA!
