Back in 1997/1998 my parents bought a new computer and with it arrived a game called 'Fallout'. It didn't take long for the 11/12yr old me to become completely obsessed with exploring the post apocalyptic nuclear wastelands on the hunt for a water chip. A couple of years later I bought 'Fallout 2' (I wasn't allowed to get it when it came out because of the content) and became equally obsessed.

Over the years there was talk of 'Fallout 3' and finally, ten years later the game arrived. I've bought an xbox as my computer isn't up to handling it and I'm just as hooked.

I don't think it's as good as the first two but the people who made it have put in little things that if your a Fallout player you'll really get (particularly some of the sound effects!) I miss some of the random humour ("Moo, I say!") and it's certainly been simplified but I don't care - it's a great game :D

I just picked up this game on Friday and have played about 3 hours so far. I was a big fan of Fallout 1 and 2. It is definitely a slightly different game but I am having a lot of fun with it!

I'm only level 3 so far. Anyone else playing?

It looks like a good game but I'm still only playing WOW when I have the time right now.  I think my younger son has played it.  I'll ask him what he thought.  Pretty sure he liked it.

Yeah I'm on a minor WoW break since the move. I'll probably take another week or so off then re-spec all my guys and get back into it. With the wife away I have exclusive access to the TV so I can get into a fun 360 game uninterrupted.

Damn I REALLY need to get that 52" LCD for the basement! Christmas here I come...

Fallout 3 is alot of fun with some great downloadable addon content available.  Awesome game, but a huge time sink.

Recently rent it. Works much like Oblivion, minus some of the most annoying things (like companions that die all the time with ruined equipment or the dozens of caves, ruins and oblivion planes that all look the same, the way theft works is much smarter, too.).
Yes, I'm comparing a fantasy game with a SF game. I think Fallout wins, the post-apocalypse is so much richer in detail than the random medieval fantasy setting, it's simply more closer to what we know and that shows. The overall play time is shorter and it has a definite ending (unless you want to buy an add-on), another point where it is superior to Oblivion where you somehow feel left over after ending the main quest. It's still fun playing the second and third time, so I bought the English version. Malcom McDowell is a definite win. (And although the German voices are very good, there are always context-related translation errors, no way to avoid them.)

I'm a bit surprised no one here mentions the Star Trek references, from the robot named Sawbones who greets you with "Please state the nature of the medical emergency!" to the STII TWOK-like death scene. Oh, and there is a computer that believes itself to be perfect... guess how that works out! :D
Don't know the predecessors, but other things reminded me of Deus Ex, another game I liked. So my geeky self is quite happy! *hugs the game* :)

I finally finished this game last night.  I gave it a long break, but picked it up a couple of days ago because it was mocking me on my shelf for so long.  I remember the controversy over the ending and now I finally understand.  I think buying one of the DLC packs alters the ending significantly but I wanted to see the end as originally intended so I purposely avoided buying any of the DLC.  Great game!

So, what do you think of the ending?

The first time I didn't get all the stuff the president was talking about and did what he asked for... d'oh.

I'm not playing any longer, but bloke is still, having installed some mods. (I'm so proud of him!)
I tried to play really evil and blew up Megaton, but it just wasn't fun anymore after that. I'm still planning on enslaving some people for Paradise Falls because I never got around to it and am curious what will happen, but... *meh* :D

I love fallout so much. my computer can play it on ultra :) Since I play it on PC I console everything making the game really awesome. I made a serial killer like Dexter, a book of Eli kind of guy, an evil bad guy with all the companions, and an elite crack squad of soldiers (they had custom armor)

Yeah I tried to be evil in KOTOR and Mass Effect and I can't just do it, didn't even bother in Fallout 3. I just don't have it in me!

Darkmolerman

lol in KOTOR  it was easy, mass effect was a bit hard  I felt like the military was going to kill me if I did bad things. In fallout who cares I will just blow everyone up and insult everyone, except the Ghouls they deserve slack

I played this game on my PS3 and it's right up there with Half Life for me. It's awesome is so many ways!
Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

By the time I hit Paradise Falls I was so near the end of the game I could taste it.  I was playing as a super good guy and the thought of doing quests for slavers rubbed me the wrong way, so I just killed the guy at the gate and assassinated everyone in the city lol.  I know I missed alot by doing that.

I thought the ending was cool but I understand why people were a little let down.
I mean its an epic experience and to go through everything just to die at the end, even as a hero, is a huge bummer.  That being said I will definitely be buying some of the DLC so my adventures will be continuing for sure.  It's Broken Steel that resurrects the character and raises the level cap.  I'm  looking forward to trying the space alien one and Point Lookout as well.
Can't wait for Fallout: New Vegas.  That's going to be awesome.

Yea Broken steel is the one, but you need a save before the end of the game, I think. You know they are out and you just need 10 dollars for each?

I have the GOTY so I have some of the ad-ons, unfortunately the space aliens were my least favorite. But Point Lookout and the Pitt were good, my only complaint about the latter was that it's too short. :)

Haven't heard about Fallout: New Vegas, I hope it'll be good! :)
