TV season shapes up after writers strike

Recovering from the scars the 100-day-old writers strike left on its box-shaped head, broadcast TV is finally back with new episodes of the shows we know and love.

But don't panic. Shows such as ABC's "Private Practice," "Dirty Sexy Money" and "Pushing Daisies," as well as NBC's
"Life" and "Heroes," will be back but not until the fall. Meanwhile, "24," Fox's espionage drama, won't be back until January 2009.

In the meantime, ABC's "Desperate Housewives" returns April 13, Fox's "House" shifts to Monday night and will be back April 28 with new episodes, and "Law & Order," which returns anew April 23, is losing yet another one of its finest.

Jesse L. Martin, who plays Detective Ed Green, is leaving the show to dedicate all his time and talent to a Marvin Gaye biopic titled "Sexual Healing." Comedic actor Anthony Anderson ("Hustle & Flow" and "K-Ville") will be replacing Martin. Look for the farewell episode to air this spring.

Not into any of the above mentioned shows? No worries. About 50 shows will be returning, debuting or bowing out in the weeks to come, keeping us entertained well into the summer months.
