And to add onto my continuing list of computer problems this week, in the one corner.....my dang WD External My Book Pro Edition hardrive is now bugging on me.  I emailed their tech support, but knowing some companies, I probably won't get any help.

Here is the issue:
When connected to my computer, my computer recognizes it, but the drive acts slowely and playing video files is really slow.  Music is the same way.  When trying their debugging program, it said that there was an issue with the cord connection, but considering I used two of them (at seperate times) it wouldn't work with either.  This JUST started last night and is really irritating me.  The only thing I can think of is that it overheated and damaged itself.  As I noticed I had left it on its side and it was somewhat hot to the touch, is it possible??  And is there anyway to fix it??

Thanks all.

If you bought it six months ago, take it back now and tell them that it's not working. Use the warranty. Don't ask about how to fix it if it's under warranty, take it back until they fix or replace it.

KingIsaacLinksr

Minor problem, who do I take it back to?  WD themselves or the people I bought it from?

Both. Try the people you bought it from and then if they don't take it back, try the people that made it

Reformat the drive in NTFS and try again. I am assuming you are running it in FAT32.
Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

Reformat failed and now the Hardrive is complete junk.  The company refuses to email me back and I can't take it back to Circuit City where I bought it from for 2 reasons.  1:  I bought it online and 2: I don't have any of the warranty information or anything to prove I bought it within a year.  Usually, I don't have this type of problem but now......This is so frustrating because all the computer problems seem to want to happen now.  So now I have a piece of junk and a computer that seems to threaten to crash at any moment.  What I wouldn't give to have someone fully check this computer out.....

Well if you bought the hard drive online from circuit city, they will have a record of when you bought it and it's warranties. I would contact circuit city and see if they could help you with the hard drive.

Can you try the drive on another machine? Based on the problems that you described on your laptop there may be nothing wrong with the drive.

KingIsaacLinksr

Sent them an email but it says you have to personally go to their store in order for it to be repaired and that they will only do it within 3 months...unless of course I had bought the better warranty.  Guess what, I didn't.  It was costing me enough.  And I couldn't do that anyway because the nearest is about 3+ hours away and I have no car.  And according to customer reviews, Western Digital will only help fixing it within 1 month of purchasing....swell.

I now more fully agree with Rico's mini-podcast about customer service more than ever.  It SUCKS!!!!

I'm just curious, but does anyone know of a company/service/anything that does full computer check-ups/repairs?  Without it having it be their own product?

Usually any small shop will take a look at your machine, thing is unless they are lucky they will likely not find the issue. Most techs are just people like us. Also they'll usually charge you to look at the machine at all.
